krogers2063 Posted March 11, 2013 #1 Share Posted March 11, 2013 We are leaving on Thursday on the Elation after being canceled on The Triumph. I read this article today about the Elation. I pray we have no issues on our sailing. http://www.wdsu.com/news/local-news/new-orleans/Carnival-Elation-gets-precautionary-tug-escort-after-minor-issue/-/9853400/19257884/-/82ckl2z/-/index.html

cuppettmd Posted March 12, 2013 #7 Share Posted March 12, 2013 Carnival was just being safe. Our last cruise on the Fascination, they had two tugs turn us around in the St. Johns River because the wind was so strong they didn't want to risk getting blown into the dock. Have a Blessed Trip! lady_cruiser Posted March 12, 2013 #10 Share Posted March 12, 2013 YEA.....We are leaving tonight heading to NOLA to board on Thursday! We are so excited. We have had this trip planned for over a year and was canceled on the Triumph and rebooked the Elation! We are cruising on the Elation for the first time on April 11th and I am really excited. Of course we have been on 15 other cruises but all were for 7 days or more (B2Bs) and we have sailed in Jr. Suites and above (Royal Caribbean.) This is also our first 4-day course and first in an Ocean View so I am looking forward to see how I will like an OV. And with all the great reviews on them I am sure I will have no problem adjusting from balconies to OV staterooms.
chengkp75 Posted March 12, 2013 #11 Share Posted March 12, 2013 Please see my comments on the previous thread on this: http://boards.cruisecritic.com/showthread.php?t=1805390 I had to laugh that Carnival said that they requested the tug escort all the way down the river as a precaution. That is a USCG requirement for the Miss River when a ship loses one steering mechanism.
maldenmusic Posted March 12, 2013 #12 Share Posted March 12, 2013 I've always loved the ELation and had no problems. Will be cruising on her again in June 2013.
WLHyatt Posted March 12, 2013 #13 Share Posted March 12, 2013 I was watching the port of New Orleans webcam and saw the tugs helping her out of the port. I thought it was unusual and figured I would hear something about it this week.

KFinTx Posted March 12, 2013 #16 Share Posted March 12, 2013 Hope all goes well with Elation! The best cruise I ever took was on that ship!
arlettecruiser Posted March 14, 2013 #17 Share Posted March 14, 2013 I don't know if the Elation was still having problems, but I saw the tug assisting her docking in New Orleans this morning.
zeroed Posted March 14, 2013 #18 Share Posted March 14, 2013 If the tug was pushing her as opposed to shadowing her it means the problem isn't fixed. Did the tug assist her to the pier until tied?
Sargent_Schultz Posted March 14, 2013 #19 Share Posted March 14, 2013 I think it is unusual for the ship to be facing downriver and is usually more indicative of river conditions.
arlettecruiser Posted March 14, 2013 #20 Share Posted March 14, 2013 I couldn't tell if the tug was pushing or just shadowing, but I've seen this ship dock before. She normally just pulls in with no tugs around. This morning she backed in slowly with the tug very near her bow. Too many tall buildings in my area to see if the tug was actually toughing the ship. For anyone going on the Elation, she's a wonderful ship. I was just on her a month ago. Hopefully this is something that can be fixed quickly and all passengers will have great voyages!:)
chengkp75 Posted March 14, 2013 #21 Share Posted March 14, 2013 If the azipod is still not working, there will be a tug escort all the way up and down the river until it is fixed. It appears that it is not affecting schedule, so they will continue as is until parts/time availability.
Sargent_Schultz Posted March 14, 2013 #22 Share Posted March 14, 2013 If the river conditions warrant, if river traffic is sufficient, if Carnival simply just feels like it, a tug could be present. Did Carnival say an azipod wasn't working or was it CNN? :p
MrPete Posted March 14, 2013 #23 Share Posted March 14, 2013 Please see my comments on the previous thread on this: http://boards.cruisecritic.com/showthread.php?t=1805390 I had to laugh that Carnival said that they requested the tug escort all the way down the river as a precaution. Sargent_Schultz Posted March 14, 2013 #24 Share Posted March 14, 2013 Good info. Yes. No where does it say an azipod wasn't working. But there is speculation by those not on the ship both there and here.
