Carnival Elation Tug Boat Escort

Yes. No where does it say an azipod wasn't working. But there is speculation by those not on the ship both there and here.

Actually, the article posted by the OP states that the azipod was taken off line during departure from New Orleans. The pod may have been repaired during the voyage, and the USCG are requiring an escort until they can inspect, or the pod is still down. Without confirmation from Carnival, we can't say, but the tug escort thing was started due to a pod failure.

We do not know that there was a pod failure. You are speculating.

The USCG has not required or commented on anything related to Elation, AFAIK.

We are on Elation in June, and were on her in Oct, 2012. Great ship. Great crew. Far from the 'biggest' or 'newest' in the fleet, but nothing but fond memories............and looking forward to making many more.

Hey, Sarg........... looking forward to hearing all about the Sunshine after you sail her. We are a LONG way off from that sailing, but already looking forward and counting down!:p

I loved my sailing on Carnival Elation a few weeks ago and need to plan another cruise on her. A great ship.

Watched the elation dock up all by its self this morning. There was a tug nearby but at no point did the tug get closer than a ship's length. Before docking the elation did a complete 180 turn in the middle of the river with the current trying to push it downriver. At no point did the tog touch the elation.

I still wonder why they turn the ship around to dock so it faces down river when docked but all other ships dock facing up river.

Thanks. I'm glad I mis-heard that for some reason they returned to port Monday night.

It was Monday night somewhere :) but in new orleans it was early morning on its normal schedule. I will say this it was about 10-15 min late from when I usally seen it dock on mondays.

I asked the Captain about that and he indicated that while they have a preferred side for docking (something about more gangways could be opened), river and traffic conditions don't always permit.

A few weeks ago when I was on Elation, they docked facing upriver.

Maybe it has something to do with the azipod issue?

Will be on her in October!

She had no tug assistance today, and she was docked facing up river, like the Conquest usually docks. It looked like it was raining when she departed, but other than that, it was an uneventful sailaway.

Thanks for the info! Hopefully they've got the issue fixed. I watched her depart on cam, but it was foggy and I couldn't tell for sure if there was a tug around.

Doubt it's an azipod issue unless they've been having that issue since early last year. I asked the same question, see the Sarg's comment about it. The elation has been docking facing down river for over a year now.
