StingRaysfan Posted March 11, 2013 #1 Share Posted March 11, 2013 I am going on my first cruise in 3 days as a single woman... CRAZY.. and it will be crazy not to sail without my soon to be exhusband. Our cruises in the past have always centered around what he wants to do, which is usually trivia. I've never actually sat on deck during the day and soaked up the sun, and went in the pool. I rarely ordered many drinks because the husband was stingy with the money, and I wasn't allowed to play in the casino at all! I'm kinda worried about money, but I'm super excited!!!!Keep your eyes out for a review.... I've ditched the Angry Bird and I'm going to take Gummi Bears on vacation! :) I've never looked before.. do they ever have singles events on board??? Cruisin'Doc Posted March 12, 2013 #7 Share Posted March 12, 2013 I hope you have an absolutely wonderful cruise experience! Remember, you don't owe ANYONE any explanation (other than yourself -remember, mirror in the morning! LOL). I have never done a 4-day, but on some of the others, there is usually a singles meet and greet later in the evening on Day 1, I'm pretty sure. I've never been brave enough to go by myself! LOL. You go and enjoy for us both! Then let me know how it goes, and if any cute guys show up :)
AngAndBoys Posted March 12, 2013 #8 Share Posted March 12, 2013 To answer your question, I have seen single meet and mingle things posted in the dailies, but can't really remember the details. Also, try your roll call to meet people. Oh, and I make friends in the casino every single cruise, playing table games. It's always the same bunch of little addicts in there night after night. Good luck, enjoy your cruise and enjoy your freedom. :D

DEBnGAB Posted March 12, 2013 #12 Share Posted March 12, 2013 Very similar to my situation... Three-years ago, almost to the exact date of your sailing this month, I took my first "single" cruise. I was in the midst of a divorce, my girlfriends fiancee ( now husband) was the piano man on the Paradise at the time, met another group of guys there and we had a BLAST! A similarity to my ex too, he always wanted a suite and we only cruised once a year. Now I pick a less expensive cabin and cruise 3-4, sometimes 5 a year. A say you go, drink and have FUN..do what YOU want to do ;) PS-On that very cruise, I met a great guy, happened to be local...we arent married but we are still together as of today. Hope you have the best trip ever! I've already downloaded a Nicholas Sparks book onto my Nook ready to go if needed. I'm with two girl friends so I'm hoping to not get too lonely. We have an Aft balcony so if nothing else, sitting out there late at night and reading (if we aren't dancing our butts off) sounds really nice! DEBnGAB Posted March 12, 2013 #16 Share Posted March 12, 2013 WOW DEB! That is crazy similar...except the piano guy thing. :) You give me massive hope for an awesome cruise! :) I was really uneasy going in...especially since my ex and I had sailed on this ship together so many times. Let me tell you, after an hour on board and a few DOD's, that went away fast! It sounds like you are outgoing and ready for fun... with that attitude and outlook, you wont go wrong! :D Hit the Piano Bar! I'll be looking for your report back! Have fun!!!! Handsome58 Posted March 12, 2013 #20 Share Posted March 12, 2013 my best hits came from being thrown a curve ball. In saying that "we may can't control how life plays out but we can control how we respond to it" So have a blast young lady. Don't look back go forward with a smile. One of my co-workers here in Dc will be on that cruise. You will have a ball. Good-times make Great memories!!!!!!!!!!

I am sad about your breakup, but excited for you about taking your first cruise. If you want ANY info, please let me know, my email address is the same as my name here, at Comcast.net. I have *only* cruised solo, I am spoiled and I love it! I am into trivia and not much of a sunbather (I get a rash, eh) BUT I also love the piano bar (and of course snorkel and scuba). You do what YOU want, woman!!! Sometimes you will hesitate regarding spending money, but unless we're talking mega-bling from Diamonds International (boy do I get tired of hearing about them!), go for it! You are significantly younger and thinner than me (hey, the facts are the facts! :o), so maybe you will find some cute single guys, but for the most part, it seems like there are mostly couples and/or families. I see now....you are not cruising solo, you are cruising with a friend as a newly single woman........I was just confused. My sister and I cruise together and have seen single M&G's posted in the Fun Times but not every evening.....we really enjoy the piano bar in the evening and also going to the adult comedy show too. Have a great cruise and happy exploring of all the places and experiences that you've been held back from in the past.
gardeningmama Posted March 12, 2013 #23 Share Posted March 12, 2013 There is a girl on these forums called GAPearl that cruises all the time by herself. If you see her posts she might be the person to get advise from. Have a great time on your cruise.
gusandgidgetsmom Posted March 12, 2013 #24 Share Posted March 12, 2013 I take cruises with my husband, by ourselves and with family and take cruises with my grown daughters by themselves. While I love my husband dearly, we do many things together and I miss him when I am gone, my girl cruises are the best. I say that to my husband and he says I am a meany and then laughs. The cruise vibe is just so different. I am not always worrying about what he wants to do I can do my own thing. I can be sillier than I am when at home running a household and my business. I know you will enjoy yourself and will find plenty of things to do. Girl cruises rock!!
WeBeCruisin' Posted March 12, 2013 #25 Share Posted March 12, 2013 I 'm sure the OP will love it! I took 10 cruises with a wife who was controlling and everything we did was what she wanted to do. It gets old. I think the clincher was when we were in the Mediterranean and she refused to go in to Rome because she "knew" it would be boring and, besides, the ship was having amazing spa specials for those who stayed on board. I took my first cruise as a single in October of 2006 and my trip next month will be my 18th since then. I obviously love it. I usually sail with a group of friends I met through cruising. It's like an extended family but without the baggage and without someone telling what you can and can't do. :) Our group also does land trips and beach vacations. I'm spending 5 days in Myrtle Beach, SC, over St. Patrick's Day and a week in May at Topsail Beach, NC.
