librarymom Posted March 12, 2013 #1 Share Posted March 12, 2013 I booked a December cruise about two months ago under early saver fares. There was a special going on and I was able to take advantage of 50 off deposits. All was good until I noticed fares dropped last week. I submitted my paperwork for a price reduction and was denied because I hadn't paid a full deposit. Are you kidding? They sold me a cruise with early saver and reduced deposit and then later tell me one negates the other. What a crappy way to do business. I paid the rest of the deposit to get the price reduction, but I think this is bizarre. Just a warning to anyone who gets excited about reduced deposits. xplnusa Posted March 12, 2013 #2 Share Posted March 12, 2013 I've been pretty excited about the deposit reductions, however the few cruises I've done mock bookings on to see if I could get it have been just that, mock bookings because I didn't have the cash on hand to pay the full deposit at the time. Not a single one came up with the 50% deposit.
irishnyc Posted March 12, 2013 #3 Share Posted March 12, 2013 It's stated in the terms and conditions of the reduced deposit sale that that will happen.

funinthesun1964 Posted March 12, 2013 #5 Share Posted March 12, 2013 I didn't know this, thanks for the heads up. I booked while on my recent cruise and was told I could do reduced deposit, but not once did she tell me anything about this. I specifically said I wanted to book Early Saver.(why else would I book this if not for price drops ) If it comes to that, I will pay the other part of my deposit to get the price drops. I just hope they let me if a drop should become available.
Bobblefrog Posted March 12, 2013 #6 Share Posted March 12, 2013 Drat that tiny print. Sent from my SCH-I535 using Tapatalk 2 I tend to do my research, but I didn't catch that either - very glad threads like this teach me the pitfalls!
ch27088 Posted March 12, 2013 #7 Share Posted March 12, 2013 I actually tried to go on the Carnival website when they advertised the 50% reduction for deposits and was not able to find one for a 7-day cruise.
Sargent_Schultz Posted March 12, 2013 #8 Share Posted March 12, 2013 Yes, and I will maybe save you some more grief. If the fare drops, but taxes go up, you might end up paying more. Yes, Carnival can pass on tax increases to everyone, but often doesn't. Once you crack a booking open for a price reduction, they will look at everything. AdGuyMG Posted March 12, 2013 #9 Share Posted March 12, 2013 I actually tried to go on the Carnival website when they advertised the 50% reduction for deposits and was not able to find one for a 7-day cruise. Were you searching for 7 day cruises that left before or after May 27th?
cruisinJenF Posted March 12, 2013 #10 Share Posted March 12, 2013 Item #2 under "Guest Notes" in the important notes section of your confirmation email: 2) Savings may vary by ship and sail date. Reduced deposits are based off the full per person deposit amount and may vary by ship and sail date. Changes made to the reservation may result in removal of the reduced deposit offer. Reduced deposits are not available within final payment. Upgrades are based on availability. Subsequent upgrades in lieu of price protection will no longer be offered. Offer is valid only for past guests with an official past guest number.

Isa65 Posted March 12, 2013 #12 Share Posted March 12, 2013 When you're booked ES and you see a lower price, usually it is for a different rate code (sale, resident, PG, etc). So, in order to get you the drop your booking will be "re-coded", meaning you are giving up the original code which had 50% reduced deposit. The new code most probably does not have the 50% deposit offer, so you need to pay the deposit difference in order to qualify for the new, cheaper code. Hope this makes sense. HOWEVER, even if you got re-coded -- your original ES status will always remain the same so you'll qualify for price drops up to 2 business days prior to sailing. librarymom Posted March 12, 2013 Author #13 Share Posted March 12, 2013 Thanks for all of the updates. I just wish my pvp had explained this to me. I also wish it took less than an hour on the phone to fix. Sent from my SCH-I535 using Tapatalk
