Transfers from Fort Lauderdale airport to Miami sailing

My husband and I are sailing out of Miami on the Reflection but the best arrangement for flying was to fly into Fort Lauderdale. I am looking for advice on the best way to get to Miami. Cruise transfers will not work when we are flying in because we are coming in a day early. Also, any hotel recommendations for a Friday night in Miami? Thank you.

I've had great results by booking Go Go Airport Town Car online. I use then at least once a year. The taxi's at the airport are not to my liking when they have to go to South Beach or Miami.

Downtown Miami hotels are closest to POM - only a $10-12 cab ride to POM the next day. Check out the Hyatt, Doubletree, Hampton Inn (Mary Brickell), Marriott, & Intercontinental.

Miami Beach is the "Miami" you see in the movies and on TV shows -- it is a separate city from Miami, and the hotels there tend to be smaller and more expensive -- they also offer great dining, nightlife and a world class beach. A $15 cab will get you from South Beach to POM; if you stay farther north you will be away from some of the craziness, but will pay more in cab fare.
