And it's good advice to be in a group, but maybe not the group where you are the slowest runner.

 

It's more like basketball rebounding where it doesn't matter if your the tallest its the positioning that matters. As long at there is someone between you and the bear, you should be okay.:)

I personally like the idea of trying to teach the bear to do the Macarena with me.

 

If I am going to die by bear I want to be doing the macarana while I am peeing my pants! If ya gotta die by bear that may be the best way.

This is a very interesting thread.

Today, in our Coast To Coast Magazine, was the following:

"Bear Warning"

"In light of increased grizzly bear encounters with humans, Canada's National Parks Authority has advised hikers, backpackers, hunters and fishermen to take extra precautions and keep alert for bears.

They recommend that those venturing into wilds wear noisy little bells on their clothing so as not to startle the bears.

They also advise carrying pepper spray in case of a bear encounter.

The rangers feel it is a good idea to watch for fresh signs of bear activity.

One way of doing this is to recognize the differences in bear scat.

Black bear droppings are smaller and contain berries and squirrel fur.

Grizzly bear scat, smells like pepper and has little bells in it!" :eek:

 

I love the mixture of a good warning, a great bell hint along with a little humor at the end.

Living in bear country, and seeing the signs in our own yard from

time to time, I may just take to wearing bells a little more often in the future. :)

When traveling in bear country, which is often, I usually take a friend(s).

 

Normally, I take Smith and Wesson. However, when in hostile grizzly country or coastal brown bear environments, I take Winchester along.

 

Always in groups, and always with something in .50 caliber.

Around my neck of the woods (Colorado) it's not bears, but mountain lions lately.
