Receiving Emails on ship

Cruising next week and was wondering how you get any emails that are sent to you. Does the ship staff print them and give them to the passengers or do you have to sign on and check yourself?
NCL does not print out and deliver e mails to anyone. In order to check your e mail on the ship, you need to sign up for an account ($3.95 one time fee I believe) and then you pay a per minute charge to read your mail. And you'll be charged per page if you print out the mail. I wouldn't suggest using the e mail address the cruise line gives you. Instead stick with whatever service you currently use for e mail. I'd also try and find an internet cafe in port because the ship charges a lot per minute.

The $100 for 270 (250 plus 20 minute bonus) deal was pretty good, I thought. Can't beat the convenience, and I got on a computer 24/7 whenever I felt like it. People weren't using the computers much, although I suppose the older crowds don't really get into it much.

The only time I actually ever used the ship's Internet service was during our 9/11/01 cruise on the Wind, but it was free then because of the crisis. Otherwise I take my laptop and connect via WiFi somewhere in port. If you look hard enough, you can find a Starbuck's or other place where it is free if you buy coffee/beverage or low priced (much less than the cost on the ship).

Hi

sent to you.

I would use a free web account (i.e. Yahoo, Hotmail) to retrieve your e-mail. Your ISP might already have a web interface for your e-mail.

On the Wind last week, NCL charged 0.75c a minute for Internet. But they do have bulk rate discounts. Also on the final days of cruising, NCL did provide additional discounts (12.00 for 30 minutes?).

If it is not urgent for you to read your e-mails, and if you are taking an Alaska cruise, you can easily use the cyber cafes in each port which are very near the docks. I have used the the one in Sitka from which you can purchase a card for a certain number of minutes (can't remember how much, but inexpensive) that you can use in their Juneau and Ketchikan locations. If you stop in Prince Rupert, it is only $4.00/hr. The cyber cafe is in the upper floor of the Pub. You can look up the cyber cafe addresses in the ports prior to leaving on your cruise.

If you should decide to receive e-mail on the ship, do not have people use the personal e-mail address that they had assigned to you; there will be an extra charge for that.

There is usually a "Happy Hour" in the ship's internet cafe for per minute users, where it is 1/2 price for the first 10 minutes (regular 75 cents/minute). At least, this is the situation for the Dream.

Good Luck

:)

We always have to check our emails while cruising for work and personal stuff as everyone we know uses it to keep in touch. The computers on the ship are so sssslllloooooooooowwwww. If you think your going to just be popping in and taking a quick peak and answering a few things it could wind up costing you big bucks! We've had much better luck at the little internet cafe's that seem to be at each port.
