klfrodo Posted March 14, 2013 #1 Share Posted March 14, 2013 Not cruise related If flying from US to Guam (US Territory) but changing planes in Osaka or Narita,,, do you have to pass thru passport control? The other option of course is SFO to GUM
cruising cockroach Posted March 15, 2013 #2 Share Posted March 15, 2013 No, just security at NRT/KIX but you still need a passport.
klfrodo Posted March 15, 2013 Author #3 Share Posted March 15, 2013 No, just security at NRT/KIX but you still need a passport. please clarify why Not that I don't believe you. Just trying to understand the niuances. Basically, a coworker has been given last minute directive to go to Guam for a week or so. His passport expires in 3 mos. He can fly United SEA-SFO-GUM with a huge layover in SFO (no passport required) Or, he can fly Delta SEA-KIX-GUM (not sure about passport requirement since he's not leaving the KIX airport) just changing planes. cruising cockroach Posted March 15, 2013 #4 Share Posted March 15, 2013 please clarify why Not that I don't believe you. Just trying to understand the niuances. Mainly because the flight will be coming in from a foreign country (Japan) - will have to clear U.S. immigration there and secondarily (and a major reason), he won't be able to board the flight to Japan in the U.S. w/o one. Basically, a coworker has been given last minute directive to go to Guam for a week or so. His passport expires in 3 mos. Passport expiration isn't an issue in this case. He just needs a valid one. He can fly United SEA-SFO-GUM with a huge layover in SFO (no passport required) Or, he can fly Delta SEA-KIX-GUM (not sure about passport requirement since he's not leaving the KIX airport) just changing planes. He'll need a passport to fly via Japan or any intermediate stop outside the U.S. even if it's just transiting.
