TableForTwo Posted June 12, 2005 #1 Share Posted June 12, 2005 Hi All, Just back from another perfect time on the Caribbean Princess and we were discussing the time off that the Captains have. We know about the waiters and stewards, but we have no idea about how many months on and off the Captain has....and who takes over for him. Is there a "Float" Captain that just takes over and fills in all the ships? Thanks for any answers, we appreciate all the information we get from all of you. spongerob Posted June 12, 2005 #2 Share Posted June 12, 2005 Captains might take as little as a week, or up to several months off. Nick Nash just took about 10 days off from Golden Princess. Giuseppe Romano took a couple months off from Grand Princess, before joining the Caribbean Princess while it was being fitted and bringing it to the US. Toto2Kansas Posted June 12, 2005 #3 Share Posted June 12, 2005 And some bring their family along with them while they are on the ship. Not a real vacation, but they aren't seperated from their loved ones as long. We have met many a captains wife and children onboard.
seattlekckckc Posted June 12, 2005 #4 Share Posted June 12, 2005 When I talked to Captain Philip Pickard at one of the most traveled lunches, he said that when he goes home he does all of the cooking for his wife and family. I thought that must be a rude awakening to have everyone fawning all over you with world class food, expertly prepared, and then have to make your own!!! ShipsAreTheBest Posted June 13, 2005 #5 Share Posted June 13, 2005 Another point to keep in mind - Captains do not necessarily return to the same ship - they tend to move around from ship to ship. So, it is not a matter of a floater taking over, but rather another captain. Some tend to stay (I hear Captain Romano is a regular on Caribbean Princess), but there tends to be alot of movement especially as new ships come on line or new destinations visited. If you ever read APH's posts, you'll see it is sometimes hard to keep up with who's on which ship!
