technically all the beaches are 'free' in Cayman .... now a hotel can charge you to use their chairs and if you MUST get to the sand by walking thru their property maybe .... but if are on the beach and just walking along . . . there a PLENTY of 'free access' areas.

This is our first cruise and caribbean adventure. We are going to Grand Cayman and Cozumel. My question is, will we be able to get onto the beaches without paying?

Yes, and don't get tricked by the cruise line into buying expensive 'beach break' excursions. In Grand Cayman you can easily take the local bus to 7 mile beach for $2.50 each. Buses leave from beside the Library in Georgetown and run every 15 minutes.

In Cozumel there are many different beach clubs with different packages, some all inclusive, some pay as you go. Read and study these boards and choose which one suites you best. We like the Money Bar, not a real beach but that's what makes the snorkeling great there. Retaining wall with sand and beach chairs and stairs with railing into the water. No charge for showing up and use of chair. They expect you to eat and drink. A few beers each and lunch and we usually spend around $40.00 total for the 2 of us just to give you an idea. If you get into Fru-fru drinks it could be much higher.

I'd advise you to get a shared taxi/shuttle van at the port to the Royal Palms beach club for $4pp. They only charge $2pp admission. They have an adults only pool and a great beach. Chairs are only $5pp and umbrella is $5, too. Get a bucket of beer and you're set. Good food available, too.

We had another great beach day in Cozumel at Paradise Beach.
