maighdeanmhara Posted March 23, 2013 #1 Share Posted March 23, 2013 We will be in Belize in early December. 'We' is myself, my DH, our sons (ages 2 and 6 months by then) and my parents (60's). Any suggestions for what we could do?
aggie_gal Posted March 27, 2013 #2 Share Posted March 27, 2013 We're in the same situation, except we'll have an almost 4 year old with us. We're leaning towards a beach excursion, but I have no idea where to even start.
Anak Posted March 28, 2013 #3 Share Posted March 28, 2013 We are interested also. Hopefully somebody will respond.

Rare mitsugirly Posted March 30, 2013 #6 Share Posted March 30, 2013 We will have our 1 year old with us in July. We are going cave tubing with him. You better double check that. They changed the rules about age limits/height limits about a year ago. We took our (then 3 year old) cavetubing with us in Belize back in Sept 2011 and the rules changed shortly after that. ;)

There was nothing on any island except shopping and beaches we could do with a one year old much less out six year old through the cruise line excursions. maighdeanmhara Posted March 30, 2013 Author #8 Share Posted March 30, 2013 Cave tubing would be great! That is what we wanted to do before we learned I was expecting and decided to bring the kiddos. Do you have a link?
Rare mitsugirly Posted March 30, 2013 #9 Share Posted March 30, 2013 Thanks. We are booking privately through .bz not the cruise line. There was nothing on any island except shopping and beaches we could do with a one year old much less out six year old through the cruise line excursions. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk We book privately as well and .bz is who we went with. They were the ones that told us about the changes that were happening and they almost didn't let our 3 year old go. They told me I was lucky that they rules hadn't changed as of the date we had went. Months later, they passed the law and it was all over these boards and you could find the information online as well about the new rules. They said all of the cave tubing companies were going to try to fight it, but it didn't look good. So I'm just saying you should verify that .bz will indeed let your 1 year old go. I would hate to see you get there and then not be able to go and not have a backup plan. Email .bz and see what they say. :)
Rare mitsugirly Posted March 30, 2013 #10 Share Posted March 30, 2013 This is my email with .bz from back when we went: "Yes, we do have a lifejacket specially for kids but a new law will be mplemented in June as All cavetubers will need to be 48 inches high. The private tourism sector, put together a new set of rules to be implemented at the cave park, OVER A PERIOD OF TIME, to allow the private sector to catch up, due to cost factors. 1. Instantly, lifevests and the eight guests to one guide ratio became mandatory and have remained in place, closely supervised by tourism authorities. 2. Next to be implemented will be the helmet and footwear rules (water shoes of some sort that will protect feet), and height restrictions. 3. The authorities are looking at November 2011 as the starting date of implementation of all the regulations agreed upon by all entities involved. All this is in order to conform with internationally established standards for risk and high risk tourism activities. The private sector, with a large representation from FECTAB, will be putting forward its recommendations at the consultation meetings, especially with regards to the height requirement of 48 inches, which our organization will object to, as it will drastically cut down the numbers of guests at the site, who consider it a highly requested family activity, and will NOT book this tour if they cannot involved their children of all ages." I really hope you get to go. It's a great tour and we had an awesome time. Just letting you know what we were told back then. :)

Even his website said he takes babies. I will check again, but worst case, we are not out any money up front. Thanks for the info. Mrsdigi Posted March 30, 2013 #12 Share Posted March 30, 2013 Just looked on .bz and .com and both say they welcome children of all ages for cave tubing. They must have won that fight. Thanks again. :) Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Rare mitsugirly Posted March 30, 2013 #13 Share Posted March 30, 2013 Their website has always said that and after they changed the rules, they did not change the website (I checked several times). So just verify by emailing them. If you can, could you come back here and let me know what they say? We would love to do this again and I believe my 4 year old is just under the 48" limit at this time. We might be coming back to Belize in a few months and we will also have our 4 year old grandson with us. We would love to do this with the both of them. :) (Crossing my fingers they are allowing it).
