pre-cruise hotel in Philadelphia

We're sailing out of Philadelphia July 19 and are looking for a reasonably priced hotel in a fun part of the city for the night before. There are 8 of us and we'd like to be able to walk to a good restaurant. Any suggestions?

 

Also we'd like to know about the parking situation at the port - location, prices, etc.

As far as hotels are concerned, I've never stayed in one in Philadelphia (as I live in the area); however, there are numerous hotels in the city within walking distance of restaurants, historical sites, etc., depending on what interests you.

 

The Hampton Inn in Center City is reasonably priced and right across from the Convention Center and Reading Terminal Market... a great location. But again, I have not actually been or stayed there.

 

Also, Maggiano's Little Italy restaurant is right around the corner. If you like Italian food and haven't visited a Maggiano's near your home, it's a great place for family-style dining. Their portions are HUGE, they have quite a varied selection, and the staff has been very accomodating every time I've been there.

You're very welcome. Let me know if you'd like other restaurant options... Maggiano's is not the only game in town (by far!). There are some unique restaurants in the area...

 

And be sure to check out Reading Terminal Market if you're in the area while they're open; it's quite an experience!

jrob, PROMISE ME, if you come to Philadelphia and eat dinner, that you WILL NOT eat in a da**ed chain restaurant! Philadelphia is a fabulous restaurant city.

 

Anywhere you stay, the hotel will be able to give you local recommendations. Better yet, if you are still reading these boards on the 17th, ask and I'll supply a list of suggestions!
