We tender in Villefrance - thinking of going to Cannes

Hi all,

This is our first time to the Med really (first time cruising too).

We tender in Villefrance on 15th May which just happens to be the first day of the Cannes film festival which sounds like a cool place to go to. I looked at the RCL excursions and they want £56/$89pp for what sounds like nothing more than a coach ride to and from Cannes & Nice. I was wondering if anyone knows the cost of the journey by bus or taxi and how long it would take? Is there a train that does the journey? That would cut out any traffic issues getting back hopefully.

Read through some of the pages on this board as there is a lot of info on Cannes and how to get there from other ports. You would look for train info.Cannes will be crowded for sure firtst day of the film fest just depending on what time you go.

Its actually very easy to get to Cannes from Villefranche by simply walking up the steps to the local train station and taking the train in the direction of Nice (towards your left when looking inland). In about an hour that train will have you in Cannes. These are regional trains, run once or twice an hour, require no reservations and are similar to commuter trains. You can buy tickets in the vending machines at the Villefranche station (not sure if they have any humans at the ticket window these days).

I remember Frankfort train station being like that years ago too.

Just be sure you have Euro`s for the machine. You won`t need any transportation when you get off the train, close toeverything.

Sounds like a great idea. Been to Cannes many times but never during the film festival. It is an easy journey from Villefranche. The only downsides are that everywhere will be absolutely jam-packed in Cannes and this may have implications for how long it takes to get a meal and indeed for getting back. Yes, the RCL price is excessive for very little as is often the case, but do bear in mind that the ship won't wait if you are late back.
