Ruins????

Pardon my ignorance, but, we will be departing New Orleans on our first cruise and will be stopping by Costa Maya on the Sensation. We really want to see the ruins. I am having a hard time figuring out how to set this up. There are four of us, possibly more, and are looking for something a little different than the shore excursions you can book through Carnival. Any suggestions?

No problem, You will enjoy the cruise and well thought out excursions can make a vacation even better.

If you read through the Costa Maya Threads - you will see so many people recommending Ivan & David's Ruins tour. They are native to the area - in fact Ivan grew up with the Ruins as a part of his back yard - it was his playground. You get a real feel for the people, the culture and their beliefs. Ivan loves his heritage and tells you stories of what it meant to grow up Mayan. Stories that were passed down from generation to generation.

Their tours are pretty small - there were 8 in our group. It was a highlight of our trip and one that we talk about most often.

This tour can not be booked through the ship - you must email them direct for information and to make reservations. You pay for it the day you arrive. (they do not have credit card machines) It only cost $43 per person (and it was worth so much more in our opinion.)

Contact them early - since space is limited they could book up early.

You will need to take a taxi from the port to Majahual - just a few minutes away - and they will be at a little resturant called the Cat's Meow - Very easy to find. This is a link to their website. I hope this will help you.
