You do not need to pay for the insurance until you make your final payment.

I would also check www.insuremytrip.com you can probably get better coverage for less money.

I've never heard of any insurance that gives you your money back.

Some will apply it to another cruise if you book within a certain time period, such as 6 months.

 

If your insurance was purchased through Princess, you might want to ask this question on the Princess board.
