What is the best beach on Grand Cayman? (I know Seven Mile Beach, but what part?) We like to have some amentities (bathroom, bar) but also like to people watch, so don't want something too secluded. We have been to stringray city with Captain Marvin, and it was fantastic, but don't need to see it again.

It is Grand Cayman, and you should post on that forum for the most feedback. But a brief answer to your question is the Royal Palms beach club on SMB, popular spot to rent chairs/tents/jet skis and the pool as well as have lunch at the Reef Grill.

We prefer Rum Point on the North end for the beach and atmosphere and the Wreck Grill for their BLT grouper sandwich. And of course it's the home of the original mudslide. You'd rent a small car near the port and drive ~45 minutes to the north side, very easy drive and worth the time. IUt can be crowded on Sunday with the locals because it is their favorite beach. The attached video shows one section of the beach area.

Yes we just feel much more comfortable at Rum Point. We would walk to the Reef Grill on SMB while staying just down the beach at the Marriott and we enjoyed the vibe there, especially evenings. But for a nice beach day and relaxing atmosphere we would drive to Rum.

if you want a drink anywhere on Cayman, be prepared for that shock! Their economy is very solid and their dollar is fixed to the US.

But $1 is only 80 cents Cayman (what you'll get on the street anyway)

or in other words $10 US is $8 Cayman

& "she may look 20 but that's 16 CI" . . . .

at a typical bar the menu lists (all in CI)

local draft beer pint $5.50

Bud $4

well $5

foofoo $7

soda $2

cheeseburger with fries $8.50

(sunsethouse.com ..... My Bar snack menu)

and the tip is usually automatically added . . . so if prices are CI and U pay US: conversion plus tip ..... just work the math as a 40% tip . . . you'll be close.

or that Bud is about $5.60 US

rum point is a great beach in Cayman or for something a little more low key, I also like Smith Cove

Would like more info on these 2 beach areas. Traveling with Son, daughter in law and 15 year old grandson. Tiki Beach looks to crowded.

We have been to Cayman before so already done tours etc. Just wanted a few hours at the beach. Is there a charge for Rum Point or Smith Cove and are lounge chairs and any shade areas.

Thanks,

Marcy

Another option is one of the tour operators that stop there along with the stingray sandbar and the reef but you aren't at RP as long of course. Fit that option we highly recommend Fatfish Adventures. But for a nice beach day at RP rent a car.
