kietzmanbc Posted April 26, 2013 #2 Share Posted April 26, 2013 We did private tour we did not have protection in luxor/ Valley of the king or Cairo. We never felt unsafe, well beyond the insane traffic! The Egyptian people really want tourists and in general the unrest is never pointed at tourists. The group that went to Mt Sinai/St Catherine's Monastery from our cruise ship had to be in a convoycoming back in the afternoon. Apparently the bedouins are awake in the afternoon and they are the ones that cause the issues so they go with strength in numbers heading back to port. We would go back to Egypt in a second! Laylam Posted April 27, 2013 #3 Share Posted April 27, 2013 Does Ramses Tours provide an armed guard for each tour group? This is part of a reply I received from Ramses The buses move in convoys for protection. The Egyptian government takes so much care of the tourism as it is the national source of income in Egypt. The tourist in Egypt is VIP person So the Egyptian police (not the ship) provide police cars, security, guards around all the buses This service is not by the ship or Ramses tours its provided for all the tourists that arrive to Egypt, make organized tours. kietzmanbc, did you specially request not to be part of a convoy??? I have read that to be part of it requires special timing.

I have read that to be part of it requires special timing. The only egypt tour from our ship thay had any convoy, was the ones coming down fro Sinai. It did not seem to matter if you were ramses, memphis, lady egypt or ship tours otherwise. No one had convoys or escorts outside of sinai!

caliche48 Posted May 20, 2013 #6 Share Posted May 20, 2013 I recently booked with a 12 hours trip to Cairo from Alexandria. Have to admit that our cruise company had us on a state of panic to book with outside companies due to security issues. were picked up on time, actually they were there 2hrs prior to our pick up time. Our tour guide Hosni, Our driver Mohammed and a trainee named George were nicely dressed, extremely polite and very attentive to all our needs and concerns. To our surprise we had a minivan to ourselves (party of two) full AC, we had to clear very strict port security before leaving port, that made us feel pretty safe. The tour was filled of history, Hosny is extremely knowledgeable, polite and very open to all our questions.iMohammed was just lots of smiles and extremely attentive and George was another source of knowledge. All the places we visited were as promised, lunch was delicious and the boat ride on the Nile river was a dream come true. We found Egypt very safe, people very friendly and delicious food. After our 13hrs trip back to Alexandria we decided to book the extra day in Alexandria with them, Hosny called his boss immediately and arrange our next day tour. I can write for hours about them, but without a doubt it was the best choice, best price, best people... if you have Egypt in your future plans do no hesitate to use them, they are.... only the best
Jade13 Posted May 20, 2013 #7 Share Posted May 20, 2013 No. We were just with Ramses for 2 days in Cairo on a private tour for 2 days and it was fantastic. We didn't have an armed guard and never thought we needed one in Cairo. Also, we were with A&K in Abul Simbel, Aswan, Luxor and never had any armed guard. I did their Nile Adventurer back in 2009, and it was amazing.

Casey2 Posted June 23, 2013 #10 Share Posted June 23, 2013 We use Rasmes for an overnight tour of Cairo this past October. Ramses provided an armed guard who travelled with us at all times. Security was pretty tight in Egypt. We had to go through metal detectors at many of the attractions.
