gtrinbkk Posted May 11, 2004 #1 Share Posted May 11, 2004 Hi, I may be working on the Century in the near future as a musician. Does anyone have any info about the times when live music is happening on the ship. What kind of music acts were playing in what lounge, and the quality of the music? Average age of pax? Been playing ships for years, just first time on this line. Any info is greatly appreciated!
Rare Lois R Posted May 11, 2004 #2 Share Posted May 11, 2004 Hi this may sound weird, and I don't mean to be sarcastic, but wouldn't whoever is hiring you be the one to tell you all that information? Normally, there is the "house band"..they play at the pool mostly and sometimes a 2nd venue. On the Century it was "X-tasea" When I sailed. On the Mercury it was "Axsis". They have different musicians....on the Mercury in March, a duo played in the Rondeaveau pre and post dinners...lots of couples dancing. In Cova was a jazz band..nice...piano..horn... Also 2 violins....which were lovely! I am 46...the ages ranges from 20's to 80's depending on time and itinerary. A longer cruise would probably have an "older set" of pax. The atmosphere is probably considered more "laid back"...not party boats. I love Celebrity...have been on 3 cruises with them in the last year! I consider it to be understated elegance and they are my cruiseline of choice! Next up...HORIZON Sept 18th to Bermuda! gtrinbkk Posted May 13, 2004 Author #5 Share Posted May 13, 2004 Thanks for the info. The venue I may be playing would be by the pool at night. Anything you could tell me about that would be helpful. Thanks!
Rare Lois R Posted May 13, 2004 #6 Share Posted May 13, 2004 Are you going to be part of a new "House Band"? The pool area is great! Mast Bar, Pool Bar, Hemisphere Lounge is top deck...all the way forward. You detect a pattern here? nealberk Posted May 13, 2004 #7 Share Posted May 13, 2004 Lois, wasn't there also a band that performed during the big stage shows, or was that all taped music? I know there was a piano player (her also performed with the talent show, but I am not sure what else. On the Veendam the musicians also helped out with security duty. I don't recall seeing the Century musicians having extra duty.
Rare Lois R Posted May 13, 2004 #8 Share Posted May 13, 2004 Neal..yep, The Celebrity Orchestra (or that might be the CENTURY Orchestra).... After both cruises on her, I realized I just don't go to the shows often...that is what makes us all different. I can't remember what I ended up doing each evening LOL but I did see one show..it was the revue..."Vegas Past and Present"....I thought that was quite good. Xtasea was GREAT Next up...HORIZON Sept 18th to Bermuda! hajekfam Posted May 13, 2004 #9 Share Posted May 13, 2004 Lois - On our Century cruise this year, there was guitarist that played near the pool bar in the late afternoons, early evenings. Also would like to clarify "laid back" - there are evening dress codes - its the atmosphere that is laid back (no announcements, no push to join activities, etc). Celebrity offers a more traditional style of cruising.
