I'm currently looking at this - Deck 10 has gone but 8 and 9 are left - can anyone advise ?

 

And is there any benefit in going on a corner aft ?

We had a corner aft suite on deck 9 and loved it. You will be able to see the lock doors close and also you can walk to the corner of your balcony for a side view.

We were in corner aft penthouse suite 9232 on the Star for our Bermuda cruise in September. The balcony is really big because it wraps around to the side of the ship. Great views, very nice cabin. Warning - you do not want to book on Deck 8 aft because it is over the Spinnaker Lounger and some of the cabins have reported to be very noisy late into the night. We did hear the white hot party slightly the one night but it was not bothersome. Also, the crew passage is at the end of the hallway next to this suite. Once in awhile someone would let the door slam as they were leaving the 9th floor, but again not a problem. We had the greatest room steward, Aslie. However, I am not sure how long they are on the ship and if they rotate when they return.

Deck 9 is preferred over deck 8. And one of the corner suites if you can get it because the balcony wraps, although it's very narrow where it wraps. Great for the transit though.

BSR is right about the corner Aft Suite. DH and I got to go through one of the Locks in BSR's Cabin. The ability to see of the side gave you a better view of the Lock's closing.

We were in the deck nine port side cabin for the LA to Tampa transit in 2011. Awesome cabin! That little side balcony allowed us to reach out and touch the wall of the canal on the final set of locks!!! Would book again in a heartbeat!

Lots of complaints re noise from below....day and night...on 8. 9 is fine. The Panama Canal itinerary is the only one I'd want a FORWARD penthouse. Being able to see the actually workings of the canal...the signals, the locks, the locomotives....are AMAZING. Being comfy on your own large balcony sure beats the pushing and shoving hordes trying to get a view from the public decks.

Thanks so much! We love the aft so have gone with deck nine. Guess we will have to get friendly with those in the the forward penthouses......actually we just feel so lucky to be booked and going on this trip! Will take lots of pics and feed back... :)
