Travel3 Posted May 26, 2013 #1 Share Posted May 26, 2013 Our Family is docked in Ravenna for a day on a cruise. Is it worth heading to Bologna or just staying in Ravenna exploring around? In other words, is one nicer than the other? Thanks

In other words, is one nicer than the other? Thanks There has been a lot of discussion on all of the ports over on the roll call thread: http://boards.cruisecritic.com/showthread.php?t=1610079&page=75 Ravenna is the only port where we've decided to go with a Celebrity shorex... We're doing the one that splits time between San Marino and Ravenna...opting to skip Bologna this time. IMHO, Bologna is a bit more impressive than Ravenna...but either would be a good choice...Also depends on how you are planning on doing it...A private tour? A shore excursion? On your own? If on your own, Ravenna would be easier...
DebbieMacG Posted May 26, 2013 #4 Share Posted May 26, 2013 Ravenna is lovely particularly if you like mosaics, we had a great time there last year, there was a shuttle from the ship to the town, it's beautiful. You can get a combo ticket to visit all the mosaic sites.
bbappel Posted May 27, 2013 #5 Share Posted May 27, 2013 We did the Ship Excursion Bologna On Your Own. We wanted private time, and didn't want to get stranded in Bologna due to an unexpected strike or roadway difficulties. We had a great time, visited the anatomy room at the university, and the towers. We even had time for a delicious lunch on a side street. It was worth it for us, though I was a little apprehensive because it was just after the earthquakes last year. If you have questions, ask away. I'll check back. susietb Posted May 27, 2013 #6 Share Posted May 27, 2013 We did the ship's excursion to Bologna and Ravenna (all day tour) with lunch. It was great. Bologna was a guided walking tour and Ravenna we were guided through the churches with the mosaics.
