girlsjustwannacruise Posted May 28, 2013 #1 Share Posted May 28, 2013 I understand that a lot of people are upset with 'changes' that Carnival has made, but is it a state of mind? I never cruised in the 1990's when people were more pampered, and more entertained, but i really feel that for the money i am paying to cruise that i am given enough- no more- than money can buy. a few things i enjoy on a cruise are -sitting in bed, crossed legged, eating the cookies and milk that my smiling kids ordered from room service -waking up to the sunrise from my bed -feeling the wind whip through my hair at sailaway - hearing that horn blow - leaving land behind to head into the unseen - allowing my son to win at putt putt - saying "yes" every time my kids wanted to order steak or lobster -hearing the music on lido while sipping my frosty drink - sipping hot cocoa while snuggled under a towel on lido watching the sun set. what are your Back to Basics moments that money cant buy? mollynmax Posted May 28, 2013 #3 Share Posted May 28, 2013 Love being away from my cell phone, laptop, and the rest of the world for a few days! Anytime I eat something that I do not have to purchase, prepare & cook is a good day for me. Having my bed made for me, and turned down every day. Having my bathroom cleaned and fresh towels every day. And don't forget the towel animals on my bed every night. What could make this any better! Gamecock_Cruiser Posted May 28, 2013 #5 Share Posted May 28, 2013 Getting away from reality! Turning the cell phone off at sail away, no computers, no traffic when going to dinner, no worries at all besides making it back on the ship.
luvscruzn Posted May 28, 2013 #6 Share Posted May 28, 2013 Just enjoying a very pleasant meal with my spouse without the folks at the next table talking loudly on their phones. Oh the total joy of peace and quiet!:D

CruisingOcean Posted May 28, 2013 #10 Share Posted May 28, 2013 How the first glimpse of the ship takes your breath away. The smile that comes to my face when I see Funship Freddy. Singing along to the same songs they sing at every Welcome Aboard show and knowing that you are truly home. Standing near the railing on the lido deck eating chocolate cake!!!!:D
gamblingrandma Posted May 28, 2013 #11 Share Posted May 28, 2013 No cleaning, no cooking, no chauffeuring anybody anywhere, no laundry, no grocery shopping, no work. It's all about me for 7 wonderful days! My biggest decision is what entree I want for dinner. I hear you about the "no chauffeuring". I'm 17, driving my mom's car for her every day because she is "along the way". My mom works as a subsitute at either the high school or middle school, whichever one they need her at, and my brother and I attend the high school, so lovely "Senior privilege" allows me to have a parking space while chauffeuring my mom and paying for gas that my mother uses, along with not being able to leave when I have study hall last block because I have to wait for my mom and brother to be done with school. I'm counting down the days until Vacation.....

Rockee4055 Posted May 28, 2013 #14 Share Posted May 28, 2013 Sail away, the sound of that horn blowing as we are running down the channel, sunsets, sunrises, no work, no phone calls at work from people who want to pass their problems down on our department. Oh, forgot the food.... Being with family and friends.

mpr774 Posted May 28, 2013 #16 Share Posted May 28, 2013 Seeing the ship for the first time. Seeing my kids smiling faces when they come down the waterslide. Late night room service with dh and kids watching the stars and discussing what we'll do the next day. Great thread btw. Can't wait until August when we will be on the dream. katybugg Posted May 28, 2013 #17 Share Posted May 28, 2013 The first glimpse of the ship that will be home for the next week. The opportunity to meet new friends. The wonderful sunrises and sunsets. Looking out at the vast ocean and realizing what a wonderful , beautiful, awesome world God created for us to enjoy. Being able to order anything on the menu and if I dont like it, order something else, which is actually encouraged rather than frowned upon. The silly contests on Lido deck. This is why I cruise and thanks to the OP for a friendly reminder that even with cutbacks and things that can go wrong, there are still so much more that is right in the cruising world. I cant wait to get on a ship again! :D
Seago2 Posted May 28, 2013 #18 Share Posted May 28, 2013 No Internet, no pets, no laundry, no cooking..... And then I get home thrilled to see my pets, happy to have internet, (believe it or not) happy to do laundry and cook! I do miss the old stuff. Lets just say- my first cruise on QE2 in the 70's had massive, gorgeous midnight buffets every night, among other things- but the things I really cruise for still exist and I love them! meluvtogocruise Posted May 28, 2013 #21 Share Posted May 28, 2013 Great Thread. I still love cruising and do appreciate that there are some new things that I enjoy being added to the experience such as movies under the stars. I do hope they will be reconsidering the entertainment changes though. Mel :)
mzloolue Posted May 28, 2013 #22 Share Posted May 28, 2013 On a cruise I can sit outside with no mosquitoes.:) It is also a vacation from my allergies. September is a good time to cruise so I can miss a week of ragweed season.

kat2009 Posted May 28, 2013 #24 Share Posted May 28, 2013 Reclining in a padded chair on Serenity during sailaway and then again the next morning for a little sun time. Being able to eat whenever I want. Appreciating the vast grandeur of God's creation as I gaze at the ocean. The happiness of most all of the people aboard. The ability to completely get away and relax. The music on Lido, across from the casino and in the lounges. etc, etc, etc.
