Should we just get back to basics?

Recommended Posts

I understand that a lot of people are upset with 'changes' that Carnival has made, but is it a state of mind? I never cruised in the 1990's when people were more pampered, and more entertained, but i really feel that for the money i am paying to cruise that i am given enough- no more- than money can buy. a few things i enjoy on a cruise are

-sitting in bed, crossed legged, eating the cookies and milk that my smiling kids ordered from room service

-waking up to the sunrise from my bed

-feeling the wind whip through my hair at sailaway

- hearing that horn blow

- leaving land behind to head into the unseen

- allowing my son to win at putt putt

- saying "yes" every time my kids wanted to order steak or lobster

-hearing the music on lido while sipping my frosty drink

- sipping hot cocoa while snuggled under a towel on lido watching the sun set.

what are your Back to Basics moments that money cant buy?

Watching the water trail away from the aft

Marvelling at the vastness of the ocean

Trying for the words to describe how dark the night sky is

Seeing a plane skim 20 foot above the waves..

Leaving the cell phone in the safe for days at a time.

Love being away from my cell phone, laptop, and the rest of the world for a few days! Anytime I eat something that I do not have to purchase, prepare & cook is a good day for me. Having my bed made for me, and turned down every day. Having my bathroom cleaned and fresh towels every day. And don't forget the towel animals on my bed every night. What could make this any better!

No matter how many times I cruise every night I try to find a quiet place outside and marvel at the night sky. You are right there is no words to describe it.

How the first glimpse of the ship takes your breath away.

The smile that comes to my face when I see Funship Freddy.

Singing along to the same songs they sing at every Welcome Aboard show and knowing that you are truly home.

Standing near the railing on the lido deck eating chocolate cake!!!!:D

No cleaning, no cooking, no chauffeuring anybody anywhere, no laundry, no grocery shopping, no work. It's all about me for 7 wonderful days! My biggest decision is what entree I want for dinner.

I hear you about the "no chauffeuring". I'm 17, driving my mom's car for her every day because she is "along the way". My mom works as a subsitute at either the high school or middle school, whichever one they need her at, and my brother and I attend the high school, so lovely "Senior privilege" allows me to have a parking space while chauffeuring my mom and paying for gas that my mother uses, along with not being able to leave when I have study hall last block because I have to wait for my mom and brother to be done with school. I'm counting down the days until Vacation.....

Sail away, the sound of that horn blowing as we are running down the channel, sunsets, sunrises, no work, no phone calls at work from people who want to pass their problems down on our department.

Oh, forgot the food....

Being with family and friends.

Seeing the ship for the first time.

Seeing my kids smiling faces when they come down the waterslide.

Late night room service with dh and kids watching the stars and discussing what we'll do the next day.

Great thread btw. Can't wait until August when we will be on the dream.

The first glimpse of the ship that will be home for the next week. The opportunity to meet new friends. The wonderful sunrises and sunsets. Looking out at the vast ocean and realizing what a wonderful , beautiful, awesome world God created for us to enjoy. Being able to order anything on the menu and if I dont like it, order something else, which is actually encouraged rather than frowned upon. The silly contests on Lido deck. This is why I cruise and thanks to the OP for a friendly reminder that even with cutbacks and things that can go wrong, there are still so much more that is right in the cruising world. I cant wait to get on a ship again! :D

No Internet, no pets, no laundry, no cooking..... And then I get home thrilled to see my pets, happy to have internet, (believe it or not) happy to do laundry and cook!

I do miss the old stuff. Lets just say- my first cruise on QE2 in the 70's had massive, gorgeous midnight buffets every night, among other things- but the things I really cruise for still exist and I love them!

I Totally agree with you katybugg! :D

First glimpse of the ship

First moonlit night under amazing stars (Appreciating God's creation)

Sunrises & Sunsets

Nothing is too expensive on the menu

feeling pampered (cabin stewards)

leaving my busy life (read cell phone) in the safe.

Thanks OP for the reminder!!

Reclining in a padded chair on Serenity during sailaway and then again

the next morning for a little sun time.

Being able to eat whenever I want.

Appreciating the vast grandeur of God's creation as I gaze at the ocean.

The happiness of most all of the people aboard.

The ability to completely get away and relax.

The music on Lido, across from the casino and in the lounges.

etc, etc, etc.

Exactly this! The ports are just a bonus.
