kampinguru Posted May 31, 2013 #1 Share Posted May 31, 2013 Anyone recommend a good place to purchase rum cake to take back to the ship? Thanks
bm6pm5 Posted June 1, 2013 #2 Share Posted June 1, 2013 Tortuga Rum cakes in Nassau. They have several types/flavors. Also different sizes. Have samples there in the store too.

Tortuga has a big presence in the bahamas, but they are not bahamian, they are manufactured in Cayman islands and sold everywhere. You'll see them at every port and in the ships store. There are Bahamian Rum cakes (don lorenzo) sold in some of the souvenier shops, and there's a rum cake factory on east bay street. Bacardi also has rum cakes - available in some liquor stores and souvenier shops as well. http://www.bacardirumcake.com/Nassau-Royale Made in the Bahamas. scubagirrl Posted June 1, 2013 #5 Share Posted June 1, 2013 Did not know this. They taste good though.:) Yes, they are very tasty. But just not bahamian, or bahamian made. Some people don't mind.. others do. Funny, they even sell them in the state in the big box shops and superstores.
Kaduka1 Posted June 1, 2013 #6 Share Posted June 1, 2013 When we were on the Monarch they actually sold Tortuga rum cakes on board as well as in Nassau. At one point they even had samples of the various cakes available to try on board and they truly were awesome. They were also available on-line. scubagirrl Posted June 5, 2013 #8 Share Posted June 5, 2013 Yes, they are good, I only mentioned that they were not bahamian because some folks want souveniers from the country they visit, not things made in japan or taiwan and not mass marketing from other islands and sold in the states. If you just want a rum cake.. they are good, even delicious. If you want something bahamian to take home, the bahamian cakes or bacardi cakes will do nicely
