Sydney Boulevard Hotel

We are planning on spending 3 or 4 nights in Sydney after arriving on the Rhapsody of the Seas on October 5. Have been looking for a reasonable hotel. Found the Sydney Boulevard Hotel, 90 William Street for $183 AU per night. This sounds like an excellent rate, and the web site made the property and location look very nice.

Does anyone have any comments about this hotel?

Thanks,

Randy

I'd suggest looking for another option. There are so many great hotels in nicer locations in Sydney - The Rocks area (although some of these hotels can be pretty pricey), Darling Harbour or even on the north side of the bridge in Kirribilli or North Sydney - and then it is just a short walk over the bridge into the city or a short ferry ride. Nice.

The Boulevarde is located in an alternative area and in my opinion not particularly pleasant or safe at night.

In the CBD an hotel that we regularly stay in if we need to be in the city for any reason is the Menzies. It is a moderate hotel, very central, above Wynyard Station for easy access to trains, across the road from a bus hub yet it is very quiet - we have never been bothered by noise! It is clean and comfortable, maybe just a little bit tired but we like it.

We have stayed in many different hotels in the city and all are great - this is just our "go to" for a cheaper priced quick stay. It is not a hotel where we go to celebrate any sort of special occasion.

We have never eaten in the restaurant there but have heard reports that it is not good. However, there are many great cafes and restaurants nearby.

In North Sydney or Kirribilli I would recommend either Harbourside Apartments or Harbourview Hotel in NS or Vibe Hotel in Kirribilli.

Darling Harbour - one hotel we enjoy is Novotel Rockford - it is a smaller hotel right opposite the Sydney Entertainment Centre and very close to Chinatown.

Try looking at Wotif.com - great deals and an easy website to compare.

I agree with Annenic - the location isn't good... it's very busy with traffic, not close to the city and not safe. William Street is the main gateway to Kings Cross which is Sydney's red light district.

The Menzies often have specials for about $150 which includes b'fast. But there are lots of hotels to choose from within the city CBD or towards Circular Quay or The Rocks for under $200 pn.

Does anyone have knowledge on the York at 5 York St. Presently we are booked for 2 nights precruise. However if it's not a good choice I can cancel. Thanks!

We have stayed there twice, most recently in March 2012, and were generally pleased. We are likely to stay there again on a future visit. One-bedrm apt was huge; deluxe studio king unit was smaller but still large relative to a standard hotel room and fine for 2 people. Well-equipped kitchens in both units. There is a Coles grocery store a 5-min walk away, under the Wynyard Station. As of March'12, there was free WiFi in the lobby but not in the apartment. Within 15 min walking distance of just about anything in downtown Sydney, The Rocks, Circular Quay, Botanic Garden or Darling Harbour. However, to get to the docks with luggage, you will need a taxi.

For our upcoming Australia trip next March, we will be staying the first two nights at the Meriton Apartments on Pitt St and again during the 9 days after our NZ cruise and before our Transpacific. There will be 4 of us so will be in their 2 BDRM Sky View.
