Wrigleesmom Posted June 22, 2005 #1 Share Posted June 22, 2005 Will we be able to cash travelers checks on board the ship? We'll be on the Wind 8/3/05. Thanks!
johnql Posted June 22, 2005 #2 Share Posted June 22, 2005 Yes, you can cash travelers checks at the purser's desk.
karen2cruz Posted June 23, 2005 #3 Share Posted June 23, 2005 We like to bring them mainly to pay off our shipboard account before disembarkation. Many private excursion operators (foreign) will take them over a credit card. Never had a problem yet.

Hikini Posted June 23, 2005 #5 Share Posted June 23, 2005 Travelers checks are just like cash on the ship, as they are anywhere else. If you want, you can check in with the business desk during the cruise and pay on your account with the travelers checks, just so it's not so high at the end of your cruise! But you will have to use a credit card when you check in, even if you plan on paying your account with cash or travelers checks. Have fun! superflyjeff Posted June 23, 2005 #6 Share Posted June 23, 2005 You're absolutely right. We always take travelers checks with us to pay for excursions we book on our own or scuba dives and then to pay off our room charges the night before the cruise ends. We've always had to give a credit card when checking in. I'm not sure how much (or if they do) authorize it for. We usually leave the ship with a $40-50 charge from whatever we bought after we "settled" our account w/ cash. It sure does make it a lot easier than seeing a $1500 charge on our credit card a month after we cruise!! And yes, you can always cash travelers checks at the pursers desk or the casino. It's easy easy easy!

KeystoneCruiser Posted June 23, 2005 #8 Share Posted June 23, 2005 Does the Wind have a casino since she does Hawaii? I know the Star did not have a casino when she was in Hawaii (added during the refit last spring) since Hawaiian law strictly prohibits gambling in its waters. The America and Aloha do not have casino's. Even if the Wind has a casino, its hours will be limited to only those times when she is to and from Fanning Island. Rare Host CMLA Posted June 23, 2005 #10 Share Posted June 23, 2005 But you will have to use a credit card when you check in, even if you plan on paying your account with cash or travelers checks. Actually, you don't have to have to give them a credit card. If you don't give a credit card at the start of the trip, they require you to put down a deposit. It's usually several hundreds of dollars. Here's a link: How do I pay for onboard expenses?
