Golden Princess Vow Renewal ceremony

Has anyone been brave enough to recommit during a vow renewal ceremony on the Golden Princess? I think I'm pushing my luck but I signed us up--after 40 years he could hardly say no and live!! :) I'm guessing it will be on one of the formal nights? Any comments?

We did this on the Golden last September. We were celebrating our 10th anniversary.

It was a wonderful experience. It wasn't on a formal night, but we dressed in our formals anyway. We were asked to meet the young lady from the Pursers Office in the bar just before the ceremony. She gave us champagne and the florist arrived with a lovely bouquet for me (white orchids) and a large white rose buttonhole for my husband. We were then taken to the Wedding Chapel. Music was playing as we walked in. The Captain was waiting for us at the front and the ship's photographer was there.

The ceremony was so moving. In fact we found it more emotional than our wedding day! We could both hardly speak for the "lump in the throat" feeling!!

Afterwards we were given a certificate signed by the Captain, a copy of the vows used and a framed photograph of our choice. A bottle of champagne was waiting for us when we returned to our cabin.

The bouquet and buttonhole stayed fresh for about a week. When they started to fade we tossed them off the balcony into the sea and watched them float away.

Three other couples renewed their vows the same evening as us, but each couple was taken to the Chapel on their own.

Guarantee you won't regret it!! :o

We did this last November for our 25th - it was WONDERFUL! We had met some people on the cruise by the time our renewal was scheduled and they all came to the 'wedding' and took additional pictures for us. The only thing I would have done differently is to remember that there's a webcam in the chapel and once we were notified what day and time it would be I would have emailed someone at home to record the ceremony for us!!! That would have been an even better rememberance but I wouldn't have traded it for the world - we had a wonderful time and ours was not on formal night either but did happen to be on our actual anniversary date!

Jimbo -

I have no idea if they will try and schedule it for your 'date' or not. They only told us ahead of time that within the first day we would receive a letter from the wedding coordinator telling us what day and time the ceremony would be - they do everybody's on the same day and I'm sure it depends on the captain's schedule and port day vs sea day, etc. We were just lucky and the date of our renewal happened to be our actual anniversary date! We had heard that they mostly do them on formal nights but on our cruise the night that all the renewals were done was not a formal night but a port night - after we had left port. You could always ask but as I said, they arrange them 1 after the other on 1 evening so that the captain's available for them all, etc. BUT, don't get the wrong idea - we never felt rushed or anything and it was very elegant and romantic. Hope this helps.

I did it on the Star Princess and the Golden Princess. Both times the vow renewal ceremonies were scheduled on the second formal night. I don't believe they will accomodate requests for certain dates. While each ceremony is private (to you and any guests you invite), all the vow renewals for that sailing are scheduled one after the other after the other. It's the most efficient way to do this, as the ceremonies require an officiant, a photographer, and a person I guess I would call a facilitator. She greeted us, gave us a glass of champagne while we waited for our turn, escorted us into the chapel and introduced us to the Captain (second in command - not the number one head honcho Capt.)

Both vow renewals were very special to us, and I would highly recommend doing it. It was also fun to go to the dinning room for formal night in my white cocktail dress, carrying my bouquet of flowers. To me, it kinda felt like a wedding reception.

Yes. There is a regular package and a deluxe package. They both included the ceremony, one large photo (with frame), a certificate signed by the officient, the bouquet and boutineer, and a split of champagne. The deluxe package also included two Princess robes to keep, two 1/2 hour treatments in the spa, breakfast in bed one morning, and cookies or appetizers in our cabin each night.

For our first vow renewal, it was worth it for us to pay for the deluxe package. When we did it again a year later, we went for the regular package. Plus, both times I had my hair styled in the onboard salon.

The prices are on the website. If you have anymore questions, I'd be glad to help.
