Bringing drinks in Carry on question

I was bringing 4 boxes of capri suns for the kids (5 of them) do they have to be in the box or can I put them in the carry on loose as long as the meet the 12 per person less than 20 oz rule?

They can be loose. We had all of our drinks loose and split between our carry-ons that way all 3 of us carried some of the weight.

Your call. If in a box they may open the box to see if there are what the box says they are. But that's about it. If loose, and if the packets for some reason trigger the scanner, they'll easily see what they are. But if loose, they'll take up more room in the carryon and you'll have to find a way to store them in the cabin. Honestly, I doubt the security folks would even bother considering them as part of the beverage limit. They don't count the little 5 hour energy bottles as part of the limit.
