avantgarde Posted June 9, 2013 #1 Share Posted June 9, 2013 Hello all, I've never cruised Carnival before, always prefer RCCL, Princess, Celebrity, NCL and Costa but one of my sisters booked us a cruise on Carnival Valor at the end of this month...her treat. She didn't want to book excursions on the ship to visit St. Thomas, Barbados, St. Lucia, St. Kitts and St. Maarten. Prefers to go on our own. Wants to do both the beach and shopping. Anybody have any suggestions? Thanks heaps!
bluemarie2 Posted June 9, 2013 #2 Share Posted June 9, 2013 For St. Maarten, you can just take a water taxi over to Phillipsburg. Very quick and easy. There are all kinds of stores, bars and a beach right there together.
Catrin Posted June 9, 2013 #3 Share Posted June 9, 2013 Although you do not want to book a tour.. one of the easiest things to do in St. Thomas is to book Sunny Liston's tour. It includes a flexible 2 or 3 hour shopping stop... a fun engaging ride though St. Thomas and then a beach break. Beats taking a Taxi to town for shopping, then again to the beach. Barbados.. taxis readily available to take you into town. St. Marteen.... the water taxi with plenty of shopping and a great beach near the ship port... or... a taxi to Orient beach. Tripadvisor is a great source. I talked to people who had taken the tours.

Anybody have any suggestions? Thanks heaps! Wow, what a great sister you have! We have cruised on RCCL, Celebrity and NCL (my least favorite). I was a bit anxious about cruising on Carnival but absolutely loved the Valor! This is a grreat itinerary. We prefer private excursions too.In fact, due to a change in plans, we took one CCL excursion and didn't like it. As suggested above, go to the ports section, that's where we found lots of ideas. There are great beaches galore! Check out Carambola Beach Club on St. Kitts and Saphire Beach on St Thomas. Have a great time!
