ronu Posted June 14, 2013 #1 Share Posted June 14, 2013 Will be in pot from 8 to 5 in July. Planning to visit Peggys Cove in the morning (returning to the ship around 11:30), have a quick bite for lunch and then visit the Martime Museum (on our own). Would we have enough time to visit The Citadel and make it back to the ship by 4:30? If so, is The Citadel self guided and how much time should we allow? Lastly, will the Maritime Museum and The Citadel accept USD? Thanks in advance!
maryann ns Posted June 14, 2013 #2 Share Posted June 14, 2013 You should have enough time. It would be more logical to leave the Maritime Museum until the end as it is only a few minutes walk from the ship, but it would be a matter of priorities. You would save time by having a snack along the waterfront in Halifax instead of going all the way back to the ship. If pressed for time, take a taxi to Citadel Hill. You will not need a guide there. There are several museums there but the main interest is the fortifications. If you are in Halifax at 12 noon you will hear the canon that is fired from there every day. http://www.pc.gc.ca/lhn-nhs/ns/halifax/index.aspx
ronu Posted June 14, 2013 Author #3 Share Posted June 14, 2013 MaryAnn, Thank you so much! It would be great to catch the cannons. Also, would really like to see the changing of the guard. Does the Martime museum require a lot of time?
maryann ns Posted June 14, 2013 #4 Share Posted June 14, 2013 How much time you spend in the Maritime Museum would depend on you. Many people just look at the Titanic exhibit and leave, but there is much more than that.
RickT Posted June 15, 2013 #5 Share Posted June 15, 2013 You may want to consider doing Pier 21 instead of the Maritime museum. Pier 21 is basically where the ship docks and is very interesting IMHO. http://www.pier21.ca/
4spring Posted June 19, 2013 #6 Share Posted June 19, 2013 Just came back from the Carnival cruise to Halifax, etc on Sunday. We went to the Fairview Cemetary by bus, then got a transfer & went to the Public Gardens, walked to the Citadel & shops. We ran into another family that went to the cemetary with us but then decided to go to the museum instead of the gardens, etc. This was around 12:15. They told us that there was such a long line to get into the Musuem that they decided to skip it. So you might want to either do the Museum first or at least check to see how many ships will be in port since apparently on this particular day, there were a number of ship tours. If you have a car already, you might want to stop at the Cemetary on the way back from Peggy's Cove. We didn't go with a tour but there were so many groups coming & going that all you had to do was stand in the vicinity of where a guide was talking, & you got a good overview of interesting facts. Just another idea to play with.
