copperski Posted June 19, 2013 #26 Share Posted June 19, 2013 Caviargal, thanks for your quick response. We have already booked 2 bike tours and its good to know we can use them in other cities if available. Thanks for the info on the 'dress code'. Sounds perfect. Also your past review of the AMACERTO makes it sound like we picked the right ship and cruise line.

Have a great trip!:)
harpy3 Posted July 20, 2013 #28 Share Posted July 20, 2013 The specialty dining room--does one make a reservation only when actually on the boat? (I'm used to Oceania and Crystal where you reserve those restaurants way in advance). Thanks. Looking forward to our first river cruise (Christmas Markets in Dec). Yes, you make the reservation once on board. Just go to the reception desk and tell them what date you would like to dine. That way you can pick the date that you want to eat there. It was never full on our trip, but the boat wasn't at maximum capacity for travelers either. None of the activities are prebooked. Even though there is a place online for booking a few activities, they are also available to be booked once on the boat. There are sign up sheets for the bike rides, again, placed at the reception desk.

H2Otstr is correct in that there are sign up sheets for the bike rides and that you can also do it online (once full payment has been made). However if you are interested in the bike tours, I would suggest you do it online as soon as you can. We just got back from sailing the AMACERTO and 2 out of the 3 bike tours were totally filled up. They even had a waist list. By the way we had a great time on the bike tours. Enjoy.

copperski Posted July 23, 2013 #34 Share Posted July 23, 2013 We have paid in full but there are only 3 limited tours listed. No bike tours. Do they list tours periodically?? No however, Amawaterways only opens up half of the spots for pre reservations. The other half they hold back for passengers to book once on the cruise. I would check back online every so often to see anything opens up. If it doesn't I would try and book it as soon as you get on board the ship. beechfor Posted July 23, 2013 #35 Share Posted July 23, 2013 Copperski, Since we are doing the same itinerary that you did, can you give us some indication how long you were in each port? Sent using the Cruise Critic forums app
copperski Posted July 23, 2013 #36 Share Posted July 23, 2013 Copperski, Since we are doing the same itinerary that you did, can you give us some indication how long you were in each port? Sent using the Cruise Critic forums app Sure, no problem. We were in Vilshofen from about 4:00pm until 12 noon the following day. We then cruised to Passau and arrived at about 3:00pm and didn't leave until midnight. The following day we were in Linz from about 8:00 until midnight. Thursday we were in Melk from 8:00 -1:30pm. We cruised the Wachau Valley from 1:30 - 3:30 and arrived in Kelms around 3:00 didn't leave until after midnight. Friday we were in Vienna from 8:00 until around 7:00am the following morning. We then cruised to Bratislava and were there from 1:00pm - 9:30pm. We arrived in Budapest on Sunday at about 9:00am until we disembarked the following morning. Hope this helps. Enjoy!!! beechfor Posted July 23, 2013 #37 Share Posted July 23, 2013 Thank you, Copperski. That is excellent information. Now all we can hope for is an end to the lock workers strike so when we travel in 5 weeks we can follow the same course and not end up with a partial bus trip.
