Cruising from Galveston

We'd be flying into Houston (Hobby) the day before our cruise (a Sunday).

What is the best thing to do? Do a one way car rental and stay in a hotel in Galveston?

Not rent a car, get a shuttle or private sedan to a hotel in Galveston and just get around locally on foot or via cabs or hotel shuttle (if they have one).

Someone help me, please?! LOL

Since you would be returning the car on Monday, you will not have the usual rental car issues many people face, because the agencies are not open on the weekends in Galveston. Hotels on the Seawall [along the beach] are quite a distance from The Strand [downtown/cruise port] so having a car is helpful.

Most of the hotels have shuttles to the port, but I don't know how good they are for just getting a ride to dinner. I would suggest checking that before you book.

Harbor House is right near downtown and a very sought after place to stay. It would be within walking distance of the cruise port and The Strand. I think they have a two night minimum stay, however.

Hope this helps.

First the Seawall is 2 miles to terminals and old town strand area.

There are three main tourist areas

Moody gardens

Seawall

Old town

However if you stay at

Tremont , Harbor House , or Galvez

They have a local van to move you between

their hotels which are on Seawall and old town strand and post office area.

San Luis has a town van also.

Moody gardens has a town van also

And is a wonderful all day destination in its own.

And there is an inter urban tourest van bus

Between all these desirable tourist destinations.

This is not the local city bus routes

But tourist destination route like a hop on hop off route.

These hotels also have transfers to terminals for cruise

Tremont and Harbor house are a couple or so blocks from terminal

And is easy walk depending on your baggage

Even if you had to make two easy walks!

Check for any changes on all these hotel own van rides, inter urban buses,

And transfers and you may not

need a rent car.

Car would make everything easier

But other options work.

I wll post a helpful map tomorrow.

We live here and ask any further questions.

Sorry for all the caps but have auto editor on my I phone.
