Nassau & Little Stirrup Cay Oct 2013

RWA Cruisers

Recommended Posts

We are 3 adults and we're going to be in Nassau for a day (8pm departure) and Little Stirrup Cay the next day (4pm departure).

We decided to skip the cost of excursions so we're looking for suggestions for fun local activities at both places. I've seen some good ideas for local food and shopping in Nassau, but not much for Little Stirrup Cay.

Also, what bars are recommended and are there other activities besides food and shopping that we should consider? Thanks for any help that y'all can provide!

Little Stirrup Cay or better known as Coco Cay which is RCL's private island doesn't have bars and restaurants as such. The ship brings food and drinks over to the island and are staffed by crew members. You will use your room card to buy drinks, the food is free. There is a few little shops that sell things, these take cash only. Your ship will have a list of excursions available, seeing how it is a private island, there is no other people allowed to offer private excursions.

Little Stirrup Cay is a private island so it's mostly a beach day. There is some good snorkeling if you swim out to the lifeguard stands (a bit of a long swim but well worth it).

You'll find a lot more information on Little Stirrup Cay (Coco Cay) on the private islands board: http://boards.cruisecritic.com/forumdisplay.php?f=406

I apologize if this has been aswered elsewhere, but is there a good resource for maps of Nassau that can be used to plan walking tours, etc ahead of time?

I used the walking tour from Frommer's:

We booked a two hour snorkeling trip with Basil at Bluehole Water Sports. The morning of our trip it was raining so he suggested we try him back at 3:00. We had booked the Tru Bahamian Food Tour and it was fantastic. What a great way to spend three hours in Nassau. We ended the food tour and were able to go back and snorkel. We did some shopping in the morning along Bay Street and in the Straw Market. Great day on Nassau. Can't say enough about Alanna and her food tour.

We had been reading some info about the food tour on another thread and that definitely seems like something we would be interested in doing. It sounds like y'all got to experience a lot of the island activities, which is what we want to do as well. We would rather explore than spend the day at a resort. Thanks for the great info!

I see that Carnival offers a 14.99 float mat for the day at Little Stirrup Cay - is it worth it? Are there chairs there? cost?

There are plenty of lounge chairs - no charge. You don't need to rent the floats in advance. When you get to the island if you think you'll use one, rent it then.
