If possible, book through the ship. It's the timing element that's at risk here, if you miss the last tender. This excursion is longer than most other excursions offered to cruisers in Belize, and with multiple modes of transprotation, it naturally runs more risks of something delaying the trip to or from Lamanai, despite the lower cost and other possible benefits of using a private vendor.

If the excursion is NOT offered throught eh ship, the tread above does have several other private vendors who do the excursion besides Island Marketing.

We had a great Lamanai experience with Island Marketing. The tour is incredible, crocodiles, howler monkeys and the ruins are spectacular. You can climb the highest temple. Its a long trip for sure but we were back to the port in time to buy some hot sause before we got back on the ship

I would do it again in a heartbeat

We also did this tour independently. It was an incredible experience. The companies that do this tour are extremely vigilant of the time. They are very careful, each step of the way, to be sure they are allowing enough time for the return.
