Hotel Estherea vs Banks Mansion - Amsterdam

Recommended Posts

Hello, Cruisers!

Can anyone suggest which hotel would be preferable for a post-cruise stay, Hotel Estherea or Banks Mansion? They both sound great but I wondered if one might be a better choice over the other, or if anyone had any feedback about either one?

Thank you,

Melanie

Not stayed in the Estherea but had a lovely stay at Banks Mansions per cruise a couple of years ago. It is not in the main squares (but is very reasonable walk or tram trip) it's well located for the Van Gogh and Rijks museums.

We liked the fact we could have drinks when we wanted without thinking of the cost, the staff were very friendly and the breakfasts were lovely.

Rooms are not large, but that is the norm for Amsterdam.

The main factor is location. Both are on a canal, but Estherea is in a quieter location, Banks Mansion is on the corner of a busy street. In both cases, make sure to book a room with canal view, as both hotels also have rooms in the back of the building. These of course are much cheaper and quieter.

There is a difference in style: Estherea is a classical style canal house, Banks Mansion is more Art Nouveau, the decor is in the style of Frank LLoyd Wright.

I worked for Banks Mansion many years ago, and I can tell you that we often booked people in the Estherea if our hotel was full or overbooked. Quality is very similar.

we stayed at Hotel Estherea for 5 nights before our Baltic cruise in 2010 and enjoyed it immensely. Great location, nice decor and amenities but most importantly the staff were very friendly and helpful. subsequently we have recommended it to many of our friends who have stayed there and they all thanked us for the recommendation.

Thank you, everyone, for your feedback! Would you say that either hotel is in a more convenient location for seeing the city, or are they comparable as far as convenience and geographical positioning?

Thank you again,

Melanie

Both are in a convenient, central location, and there is a tram stop near both hotels. You can find both hotels on Google maps, just see which location takes your fancy. Everything in the centre of town is in walking distance anyway, so one is probably 2 minutes closer to a certain attraction than the other, but both are in the same area. You can walk from one hotel to the other in 5 to 10 minutes.

Thanks, UKBayern! Any difference in room size?

Are the guest rooms air- conditioned in both hotels?
