Solas36 Posted February 10, 2017 #26 Share Posted February 10, 2017 Since the last post in this thread is from 2013, I'm wondering if anyone has visited this port more recently. Where does the tender leave us? Are there any shore excursions you would particularly recommend? Where are the best areas to walk around? Thanks Our 2 October 2016 Riviera cruise was due to go to Sorrento but instead docked in Naples. We were disappointed in the way this was (or rather wasn't!) notified to us. Sorrento was just changed to Naples in our nightly booklet in cabin with no reason given. Turned out those with ship excursions were contacted the previous day. The weather was lovely in Naples but we are not great fans of that city. So just made the best of it and actually found some nice places on the hoho bus tour. We have spent several holidays in Sorrento and were looking forward to going back after 16 years. Guess it's a good reason for another holiday there! So, as in all ports, you can't be sure the itinerary won't change without warning.
Rare jpalbny Posted February 11, 2017 #27 Share Posted February 11, 2017 The tender leaves you roughly here: 40°37'47.8"N 14°22'31.0"E http://maps.google.com/?q=40.629945,14.375281&hl=en&gl=us Don't know if the link works since I'm posting from my phone, not my computer. But the latitude and longitude should be correct. This is convenient to buy tickets and catch the tender or the fast hydrofoil to Capri. It's 10 minutes to town if you climb the stairs (longer if you walk the road) and 15 minutes or so to the train station. Tickets on the Circumvesuviana train to Pompeii and Herculaneum are €3-4 per person. Can't tell you where to walk around Sorrento because we've always gone to Capri, or Pompeii, etc. We don't stay put very well!
