I know the sushi is now on the buffet, but where is the sake?

Apparently I need to watch the CCL boards better. I didn't know they eliminated the sushi bar! WTH?!?! :(

That's been one of the thing's I loved on CCL for a long time. More cutbacks, I guess I shouldn't be surprised.

When's Cahill leaving?

They have a sushi bar on the Breeze now (for a fee ) and it's also coming to the Sunshine.

I found this on John Heald's blog from June:

The sushi bar has been replaced with the fantastic Taste Bar which features a daily taste of special appetisers. Sushi is still available nightly in the Lido restaurant from 5:30pm – 9:30pm for you. I hope this helps answer your questions and please let me know if there is anything else I can do for you.

Best wishes.

John

I'm thinking I may need to ask him about the sake....

Question answered! I got my answer from John Heald - since this thread is getting a few views, I thought I would share:

We still have Sake available at the casino bars I think Dianne. I will check and if not I will let you know. But I am sure its still available. The taste bar is on the ship and Sushi available on Lido deck from 6:00pm. Cheers and let me know if you have any other questions

It seems harder and harder to call it 'sushi' as Carnival cuts corners and finds ways to use no or cheaper seafood. My last spicy tuna rolls tasted more like canned tuna than anything remotely fresh. But that aside...

All my cruises this year have been on Fantasy class ships (Ecstacy, Fascination, and Fantasy) that still have the sushi bar. But the Lido buffet also had sushi every night (at least every night I ate there).

I actually prefer getting sushi from the Lido buffet. It's the same varieties they serve on the sushi bar, and you can get whatever amount and types you want, as opposed to the sushi guys at the sushi bar who sometimes balk at giving you anything other than what they've pre-plated.

EDIT: According to Carnival's website Ecstacy, Fascination, and Fantasy now all have the Taste Bar since I've been on them earlier this year, so I was assume sushi is only available on them at the Lido buffet now. Elation is supposed to get the Taste Bar this month, so I will see on my cruise next month.

Sushi is sour rice. The Maki rolls you eat can have many different fillings. If you want fresh raw fish, ask for Sashimi, not maki nor sushi .

I know the difference between nigiri, maki, and sashimi. My point was that they use so little seafood, much less fresh raw fish.

What is on the taste bar? Going on the liberty in sept. the sushi bar has always been our location to meet before dinner I hate that it is gone.

I'm pretty sure the physical "Sushi Bar" is still there, it's just the "Taste Bar" now. You should still be able to use it as a meet up place.

We loved the new taste bar on the glory! I did miss the sushi and looked for it each night on the buffet in March. Never did find it. :(

I had the same situation on the Sensation this year. I checked the lido buffet every evening, with the same result: no sushi. I asked a crew member working there what happened. He told me that all sushi on the ship was discontinued (except what's served in the MDR at lunch and dinner).

The Imagination last year had the sushi bar, and it was really good. It now has the Taste Bar as well. I guess that's cutbacks for you.
