Upgrades w/assigned cabin?

Is it possible to get an upgrade once you have been assigned a certain

cabin? When we made our reservations, my DH asked for a 'guarantee' but found out we had been assigned a cabin. After talking with our TA, we decided to keep the room because of the location. However, now we are wondering if

there might be a chance of up-grading without paying extra. Thanks! 8_14_11.gif HAPPY 4TH OF JULY!

As stated, you have to have the TA mark your file that you will accept an upgrade. Check with your TA.

OTOH, if you like the position of the cabin you have been assigned, you may want to just keep the one you have. An upgrade can be the same category on a different deck that Princess believes is a better cabin.

Once your cabin has been changed, there is little chance for you to change on your own if you don't like the placement on the ship. Your previous cabin will have already been assigned to someone else.

Don't know if it happens with Princess but, on a recent Celebrity cruise we were checking in and found out that we had been upgraded from an inside to and ocean view. :D

Definitely good advice given. Some don't realize that all upgrades are not always good upgrades. And most upgrades are to the same category, just in a different location. There are those few (and they seem to be fewer and fewer lately) that receive those surprise upgrades to mini suites and full suites, but they just don't happen as often as they used to. Counting on an upgrade and actually getting one is very rare anymore.

:) Thanks to everyone for their advice. I think I will keep our 'assigned' cabin because it's in a good location on the ship. I also had forgotten about the

'upgrades' still being in the same category so the chances of getting something better would be slim to none. OH well..

Upgrades are always possible unless you specify "No Upgrade". Your file doesn't have to specify that you will accept upgrades in order to receive one, but rather the opposite. If you're happy with your cabin, have your TA specify "No Upgrade". As previous posters have said, an upgrade is not always to a better cabin. It is possible to get your original cabin back, but this avoids the hassle.
