MIA to Port Everglades after flight from London

We are sailing out of Port Everglades on a Saturday and arriving at MIA from London the day before. Our flight lands at 1735.

Currently I'm holding a fully-cancellable room at the SheratonMiamiAirport for the Friday night. We've sailed out of Miami on several occasions but this will be the first time from Fort Lauderdale.

My question is this - what would you do: stay in the Miami area after a long flight and get to Fort Lauderdale the next morning either by hire car, cab or shuttle; or pick up some type of transportation on landing and spend the night nearer the cruise port?

Thanks :)

We always stay in Miami after a long flight from the UK. The last time we stayed at the Sheraton, and are looking to stay again later this year. If you book a Club Room, you have access to the Club lounge which provides continental breakfast, drinks, computers (if you do not have a tablet/ipad etc with you). We found that the extra cost was well worth while.

We have taken shuttles/taxis etc the following day to FLL, however last time we tried the train. You can either take the "people mover" train from across the road from the hotel to the airport, or the shuttle bus back to the airport. You then take a free bus to the train station, and then the train to a stop near FLL airport. Then catch a taxi to the port. Although this may seem to be "hassle" it was really straight forward, much much cheaper, and we had the whole morning/early afternoon to travel down to the port. We prefer arriving at say 2.30pm and missing the crowds.
