Crusing in September

Recommended Posts

I've cruised in September, late September, and I seriously had to sit and think if I ever saw any children. I remember one instance that when we were in the main pool there was a family that had 2 kids. That's it! I know there were others, but it wasn't the running screaming hoards of Disney.

Schools are back in session at that time. One reason we tend to cruise on off times. I would never go over the Summer or during Spring break. Other times, there are still kids but nothing like you would see over the Summer months.

My kids have Fall Break (we have year round school here) so we LOVE taking our vacations at the end of Sept! Kids don't have to miss school and prices are usually better and places less crowded as not many places have a fall break.

School started here July 22 and we get 2 weeks off every 9 weeks.

So there will absoluetely be kids just not too many of them!

We are taking a cruise in September and my youngest and niece will be missing 4 days of school. I don't think there will be many other kids on the ship but that is ok as they can entertain themselves on the slide. They will also go to trivia and spend time in the cabin watching cartoons. They are not into the kids club. It is just a nice relaxing time for us and they are well-behaved so probably won't even be noticed.

My oldest is in HS and he won't take any days off unless he is at deaths door. It's that bad in HS :( He's being rewarded next summer with the trip of his choice.

These up coming cruises in September will be my first when kids are in school. Not that i ever notice kids on a cruise but will there be alot less? I am just wondering what to expect. One is out of Miami and one is out of New Orleans if that makes a difference. First cruise without my kids ;)

Hi Bruce - I will say that we started cruising in September because the kiddies are back in school. We had a really bad experience during a summer 1998 cruise and swore to never do that to ourselves again. Too many out of control kids who had no parental supervision. That being said, there are kids on the ship in September, but there seems to be a different atmosphere.

Just putting it out there....i don't mind kids....just wondering if there are alot less? Seems to me by most of you it will be alot less then when i cruise in August. Love kids that behave......usually if the kids are bad the parents are not so swift either :D

Im a fairly new parent myself, but prior to having a child kids never bothered me on ships either. Most seemed well behaved. I remember one cruise with some college girlfriends, I got into a pretty intense game of "old maid" with a 7yr old in the library. She kicked my butt...lol :o

Ill be cruising with my 1yr old in a week. But generally I would think most children would be in school with a few exceptions of course.
