Limo's, Cabs, and Luggage

Curious to know if my son got taken to the cleaners.

Back story

DS and DIL are cruiseing with us next month. Flying into FLL and sailing out of Miami. Since I'm picking up the tab on a few items, I suggested to DS to go ahead and pick up the limo transportation from FLL to hotel in Miami. They've got to start somewhere right?

Well,,, he got it arranged. He got a party bus. Why? I ask.

He said the vendor told him that there is a new law in Florida that luggage must be secured in a storage area of the vehicle and that it is against the law for luggage to be in the passenger compartment. Since no cab or limo can put 7 pieces of luggage into a trunk,,,, the only option would be 2 limo's, 2 cabs, or the 1 party bus.

Is this true? or did he get taken for a ride?

In the past, if I had 4 passengers, I'd get a 6 or 8 passenger limo,,, put 4 or 5 pieces of luggage in the trunk, then the rest with us in the back of the limo.

Thanks

I am going to make the assumption that the seven pieces are not all large pieces.

We have faced that situation before.

You can get a luxury van that will easily hold the seven pieces of luggage as opposed to a party bus. We do this often in Florida.

Thanks for the info but doesn't answer the question.

I was there in January of this past year and there was no such requirement. Why don't you call any of the limousine companies and ask.

For example, Carey Limousine: (305) 893-9850

Just talked with Michael from Executive vip limousine in Cocoa Beach.

He said that there is no such new law regarding luggage inside.

He said that it is up to the limousine company only and that most

do not due to damage to the seats etc.

He also said that if the 7 suitcases would not fit, an SUV or Minivan

would have been fine, not a party bus.

Looks like you were taken for a ride by a shady company.

Thanks for the feedback.

No,,, I wasn't taken. 28yo son was taken for a ride.

I'll let him know. He can either chalk it up to live and learn, or he can cancel and go another direction. His choice.
