I didn't think Virgin drinks counted toward your limit or maximum allowed.

They didn't on the Dream a few weeks ago!! Our group all had the Cheers program and a few times virgin drinks were ordered and DID NOT count toward the 15 drink limit!

This is what Carnival posted about the Cheers program on the website. According to what they promoted you get unlimited frozen drinks and sodas. It does state that you can only order one drink at a time. I plan on having a printed copy of this with me on the cruise in case they try to count the non-alcoholic drinks as part of my 15 drinks a day.

CHEERS! Beverage Program

CHEERS! is now offered on ALL ships with the exception of the Carnival Imagination, Carnival Inspiration, Carnival Sensation and Carnival Spirit.

Under the CHEERS! Beverage Program, guests can enjoy a wide variety of wine, beer and spirits, along with sodas and non-alcoholic frozen cocktails throughout the voyage at one convenient, flat rate. The cost for this program is $49.95 per person, per day ($42.95 on cruises in Europe), plus a 15% gratuity added on at the time of purchase of the program.

Note: This program is not offered on 2-day cruises, charter cruises and at Half Moon Cay and Little Stirrup Cay.

Guests can sign up for CHEERS! at the Atrium Bar, Casino Bar or the bar at the main pool area. Here are the program details about our awesome new beverage program- CHEERS!

With the new purchase of this program, you will enjoy the ease and convenience of paying one flat price for your spirited beverages (yep, that’s with alcohol) all cruise long! At only $49.95 per person, per day ($42.95 on cruises in Europe), plus a 15% gratuity, this program is an amazing value! Simply use your newly-stickered Sail & Sign Card and you’re ready to enjoy!

Beverages included in the program are:

· All spirits (including cocktails), as well as beer and wine by the glass with a $10.00 or lower menu price

· Sodas and non-alcoholic frozen cocktails

In addition, guests who purchase CHEERS! are entitled to:

· 25% discount off the menu price for bottled water

· 25% discount off the menu price for any spirits or wine above $10.00 per drink

· 25% discount off the menu price for wine and champagne by the bottle

Beverages excluded from the program are:

· Non-alcoholic beverages other than soda and non-alcoholic frozen cocktails

· Beverages promoted and sold in souvenir glasses

· Bottles of liquor

· Bottled water (offered at a 25% discount)

· Wine and champagne by the bottle (offered at a 25% discount)

· All spirits or wine above $10.00 per drink (offered at a 25% discount – drinks count toward the 15 drink total per 24 hour period)

· Beverages offered at gangway while debarking

· Beverages offered through room service as well as mini bars and/or other in-stateroom beverage programs

· Sharing cocktails, floaters, pitchers, tubes and buckets

· Beverages offered through Enomatic wine machines

· Coffee beverages and food items

· All other beverage-related programs including cookbooks and bar books, beverage seminars and classes, as well as cigars

The following restrictions apply:

· Must be 21 years or older to purchase and agree not to give to minors

· Each adult assigned to the same stateroom must purchase the program

· Only one drink at a time may be ordered. No sharing is permitted

· Applicable state and local taxes will be charged to the guest folio when this program is used within US waters

· For ships sailing from Texas, due to state laws, CHEERS! cannot be purchased on embarkation day but will be available for purchase on the 2nd day of the cruise

· Program allows for up to 15 alcoholic drinks per 24 hour period (6:00am-6:00am); once the limit is reached, the guest will not be served any additional alcoholic drinks

· Program allows for unlimited soda and non-alcoholic frozen cocktails

· Carnival reserves the right to refuse service for any reason

· Program is non-refundable

· Guests must purchase the program for the entire cruise - this program is not offered on a per day basis

Am I able to pick up the package on lets say day 3 of a 6 day cruise? Or do you have to start on the 1st day.

Since Carnival wants full revenue from this program they likely stop selling it on Day 2 (except the Texas departures where they cannot sell it on Day 1)

I did not have the Cheers program, and I am not hijacking this thread as my comment has to do with drinking. They must not put much alcohol in their mixed drinks so one could drink the max of 15 per day. I was on a snorkel tour in Grand Turk recently, and rum punch was served after the snorkel. I had three, and was flagged by Carnival, my drinking privledges were taken away, mini bar locked. I was given no test..........my DH and I argued at guest relations to no avail...................when we returned to our room, on our bed was an invitation to the open bar past guest party:confused:

I was not drunk, just giddy, as we were with my sister and when we get together, we giggle as school girls, don't even need alcohol.

Has anyone been flagged on the Cheers program? Three drinks would not be anywhere near breaking even!!

Also want to say that we did have the unlimited Classic program on Celebrity, and it was very hard to get a buzz unless you drank beer or wine.

How did you get flagged by Carnival? Just because you were giggling? The rum punch and other drinks are likely a lot stronger on shore than on the ship. In any case the ban should have been lifted the next day. Was it?

My sister and I had a giggling fit as we boarded, An hour later there was a knock on our door. It was security............said for my own safety, I was cut off!!!!!! My sister was not, nor was my DH. Yes I had to wait 24 hours to be able to drink, but my DH could buy me anything I wanted, and the party was within the 24 hours. Go figure????????????? Anyone else? I am a Grandma for Heavens sake!!!

Husband and I had the cheers program on the Breeze in June, and on the Ecstacy in August. Was never drunk, reached my 15 several times. Was not cut off on the Breeze, drank 18 one day. It is 6am to 6am. The Ecstacy was told when I got close to my 15. I'm not a heavy drinker. 15 drinks spread over an 18 hour day is easy to do.

I agree - 15 drinks in a whole day isn't too much. For example: while on vacation I enjoy mimosas or bloody marys in the morning, possibly a couple (2-4) beers with lunch and then you have dinner and the evening. It could easily be done but I don't think I could do 15 drinks everyday for a week..LOL...although if I ever cruised without my kids I would except that challenge ;)

Good god! They cut you off for giggling? I realize Carnival wants to clean up its party image from days gone by, but in this case, they got pillars up their rectums (i.e. uptight). I've come back from ports in a worse state than giggling (staggering, singing at random, laughing uncontrollably, etc.), and nothing was done to me. (I did not buy Cheers.) No cut-offs, no restrictions, no warnings, not even "are you OK?". Then again, I'm a dude and I was 29 at the time, so maybe the crew didn't worry about me as much. Plus, dozens of other people were coming back the same way, so cutting them all off would be a big revenue hit. No one was rowdy, out of control, or anything like that, but people still acted worse than a giggling fit.

Thanks for the cautionary tale. I will not be buying Cheers on any Carnival cruises in the future. I don't want a nanny cruise any more than I want a nanny state.

This is kind of a pain, but Cheers is still worth it for me, but I can't even buy a virgin frozen drink for my son on my card without it counting (and having to wait 5 minutes before I can order my drink) toward my daily limit. Of course, I can't find the rule that justifies this, and I could just let my young son have charging privileges on his card, but Carnival really is what it is and it is kind of unreasonable to expect them to apply anything consistently or logically. Some things simply cannot be done, no matter how easy.

Virgin drinks and soft drinks do NOT count toward your 15 - per Carnival web site

It still boggles me that someone could drink 15 alcoholic drinks in one day....that just seems like a lot to me but I'm not a drinker

Back in the day I could have, but that day passed many years ago.....there is no way I would ever get my money now out of a cheers program.

I speak the truth, when my sister and I get together, everything is funny, always has been. My gripe is I was not given any test, straight line to walk, say the abc's etc. I was very coherent talking to quest services, was not loud or "acting drunk" I was very embarrassed.

So you CAN NOT have FUN on a FUN SHIP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!????????????

Any one else been cut off? Am I the only one??

I am an old lady (61) and I did not drink at all until I was about 50. I have been on cruises where I have consumed 15 drinks in one day and I was no where near drunk. I'm always awake for at least 18 hours and that is less than one drink an hour.

I'm not a professional drinker in fact except when I am on vacation I rarely drink at all and I don't take a lot of vacations. I think sometimes people get judgemental based on their own experience.

Agreed!!!

Don't worry too much about it. Only you carry the memory of this indignantly. If you cruise again they will not remember and limit your drinks or anything. There is too much bar revenue at stake to adopt such a policy.

My sister and I late 50's are just like you, we start with Bloody Mary's around 10am and have on average 1 drink an hour.....never feel hardly a buzz.

But let me blow everyone's mind.

Not only do I frequently come close to my 15 drink limit, but I splurge a little during meals with a few glasses of wine.........and then in the evening while I'm playing in the casino my drinks are free on the Players Club and don't count against Cheers......

So between about 10am and 2am (14 hours) I'll routinely go well over 15 drinks when combining the 2 plans.

I say well Cheers to you! My Dan is a established Drinker and i think about 15 will be about right for him ... He is 61 and has been doing it for 40 years.... He can almost walk a straight line before bedtime. lol
