Travel from MIA to Falls Mall Miami

Anyone have any idea what the travel time and driving conditions are like between MIA and the Falls mall? My daughter really wants to go to the American Girl Store. We're from Canada, so we don't have them here. We will have a rental car. Our plane gets in about 10 am Saturday morning. We leave Sunday on the Allure.

I used to live just a few minutes from the Falls

I'm gonna give you a route that is not the most direct, but IME will be less traffic in the long run.

Exit the airport and head for the Dolphin expressway SR836 and head WEST for 7.5 miles

turn SOUTH on the turnpike SR976 10.5 miles

and exit at SW 152 st,which is the ZOO exit; turn EAST

head est 2.5 miles to US-1 and turn NORTH

FALLS Center is 1 mile north, on the left, at SW 136 ST but I'm not sure where the exact store you want id from there - this is a BIG area of stores

*****************

this route will take you AROUND most of the Miami traffic for a total of approx. 25 miles. There are tolls on the turnpike and they ARE all electronic in this area so paying the rental car fee for this service is wise.

There ARE shorter more direct routes but depending on time and day this route is what I'd do (did)

I on leaving the Falls you are heading for FTL area, back track to the turnpike and stay on it until you see the signs for TP or 95 north ... your choice. If you want the scenic route go east to Old Cutler Road and follow this north into downtown thru old Miami neighborhoods and 'the Grove'

997 is KROME Ave and that's out in the Boonies

IMO the turnpike is your best option and yes there is going to be plenty of traffic because it IS the best option. Krome might be light down to Homestead but once you turn east and get to US1 you are in the mess heading for the track.

I might get off the turnpike at 989 / SW 112 AVE and go south to SW 286 ST (west), then south again at SW 137 ... but that's likely going to be a mess too.

The track is kinda on the edge of civilization!

Yes I do know that 997 is definitely out in the boonies. I have attended the race but have always stayed in Florida City but this time I am staying in Fort Lauderdale so not being used to all of that traffic and freeways I was thinking that taking 997 all the way down to 344 I think Palm (Florida City) I would avoid some chaos and wanted your opinion. Do you think it would be 2 hours down on race day or more than that, either route I take???

Any idea how much a taxi would cost to go from the Hampton Inn Brickell to the American Girl store (Falls Mall)?

try this: http://www.taxifarefinder.com/main.php?city=Miami

You CAN do public transportation for this

Take Metrorail to the southern end of the line which is at Dadeland Mall (there are two stops ... south is the last one.) Then take a bus south to the Falls .... it will run right down US-1. This will cost a fraction of what a taxi would.

you'll want Route 31 Busway Local

you are getting on at about SW 100 St, and will go to SW 136 St ... this bus route uses a special set of lanes next to US1 reserved for bus and emergency vehicles . . . 6 stops should be it. The Falls shopping center proper is just west of the bus lane, but the general store area is ALL around . . .

use the saved taxi dollars to have a drink on me during your cruise

(when the weather was bad this is how I went to work downtown ... to avoid the mess of US-1 traffic)
