I just got off the phone with an NCL cruise planner that told me he had just gotten off the sky. He said there ware alot of improvements (carpeting, bar facing, etc.) and that NCL spent over a million on this removation.

I do know one thing that the Sky got in Dry Dock (well, actually coming out of Dry Dock) that is probably going to get glossed over...

They received a score of 100 on their USPH Inspection! That is a great score on its own, but even more impressive coming out of a Dry Dock environment.

Kudos to the Sky's crew!

That IS great news! :D

What exactly is the USPH Inspection? I know it's public health - but is it the cleanliness of the ship?

That's quite impressive for a perfect score!

I wonder if they made any repairs in some of the cabins? Our inside cabin had a lot of cosmetic problems - including a broken drawer. If they come back with some good reviews I would love try it again.

onefishtwofish will be letting us know sometime after Monday.... I for one can't wait to find out :)

I've heard the phone system on the ship got a major upgrade... now they had handy phones for the crew to use plus all carpeting everywhere was replaced. There was more done to the passenger cabins but I only had a fleeting moment to get information so that's all I've got... hopefully we'll get a fully report when the first cruisers are back on Monday! :)

Thanks for the spoilers! She really needed new carpeting so I am glad to hear about that!

Looking forward to hearing more!

What I've heard from other TA's is that it was mostly the carpeting and cosmetics in the pax cabins, along with the bridge upgrades.

Which is a lot to do in 2 weeks. I'm hoping they'll take her out for a long dry dock at the end of the 2014 season to add a few restaurants and do a few amenities upgrades.

Replacing carpeting is standard on any week long dry dock. When the Jewel and the Gem came to Boston for their week long dry-dock they ripped up the carpet while replacing the bearings on the pods under the ship. The casino on the Jewel was also expanded out into the hallway by it at that time.

A longer dry dock time gives them more time to do other things but gutting a ship and putting in new restaurants takes weeks, possibly 3 with round the clock shifts.

OMG !!! I am going crazy wondering what changes are occuring to the Sky while in dry dock  . We will be sailing on her in November, and can't wait to find out! :p

We may book a last minute right before Christmas. I'd love to see what's new on her as well!

Can't wait to hear what has been done!

My mom is taking my dd and her friend and I on the Sky in an OS on Deck 8 for my dd's Spring Break (and 20th birthday). Can't wait to hear if anything has been done in the cabins (such as replace tvs, etc.).

Thanks to those that will report back.

Well I hate to disappoint you all but other than a flat panel TV there were no apparent changes in our cabin. It was clean but still dated. Someone posted earlier that the Hawaiian flowers would be taken off the bow, but no - they are still there and in pretty bad shape.

We had a GREAT time, the staff was terrific and everything was super clean just can't report that there was much of a facelift except the carpeting.

Hmm... maybe NCL needed another week to put flat screen TVs in ALL rooms. See attached photo of the museum-grade TV in our cabin. I think they pulled this baby out of my parents' 1978 winnebago. On the good side, it kept my kids from watching TV - they quickly gave up cartoons since could only see the lower half and right side of any show!

Based on our Oct 18-21 cruise, can confirm what was said above. We spoke to many crew members to learn what had been done, but nothing significant (beyond carpet) will be obvious. We sailed Sky in Jan 2009 and the overall look is much different to our eyes, but cabins are pretty worn. See attached photo of the rusted bent frame in the lav. The telephones match the TV in age and wear. Can't comment on the "upgrade of phone system" as mentioned above as our phone didn't work at all.

No complaints - we didn't sail the Sky because it has the latest gizmos - and the public areas all looked very nice ("Fancier than the Allure!", my 9-yr old said) but just wanted to report that time wasn't taken during the dry dock to upgrade all cabins.

Quite disappointing. This ship has so much potential. I love the Sky and will continue to sail on her but they could certainly stand to put some money into her and do the "little things" that passengers notice.

I sound like I am "bashing" the ship but I'm not.

I'll continue sailing the Sky!

Thanks for the update!

I know that this is a bit older post but on any other ships the transition from CRT televisions to flat screens hasn't been done overnight, it's usually done during normal operations and takes several months per ship for all the televisions to be changed so I wouldn't worry about it too much. To my understanding upgrading the televisions is a part of NCL's enviromental program (cuts the electricity usage) so I'd be amazed if there was a ship that wouldn't eventually get flat screen TVs.

Hey everyone,

We were on the Sky from Nov 11th to the 15th and for our first cruise we loved it. We were on the 10th Deck room 0238 and they upgraded the box T.V. to a flat screen T.V. Picture Below.

They also upgraded the carpets and did some cosmetic stuff also.
