Beer in luggage on the plane

Has anyone transported beer on the plane in either cans or plastic bottles? We usually travel the day before but this time we are flying in to FLL for Majesty in Miami and will not have time to stop and try to buy some beer and pack it in our checked luggage before getting on board. Does the cabin pressure in the planes cause the cans to explode or has anyone tried the plastic bottles of beer?

Just curious!!!

I think the beer will be fine in your carry-on luggage. After all, they have cans of beer and soda in the galley. I wouldn't put any in your checked luggage, though. The baggage section isn't pressurized. I don't put anything carbonated or aerosol in checked luggage. If you have a plastic water bottle, about half full, with the top screwed on tight, have fun watching it collapse as the plane descends!

Beer will suffer no ill effects from being in the cargo hold. it is pressurized but not heated so they should be nice and cold. I would be sure to put them in something waterproof (several trash bags). The likelyhood of a few of the cans getting broken open by getting tossed around through the baggage handling process (either by people or the machinery) is fairly good. and I don't think you want beer dripping out of you luggage not to mention having your other packed items marinated in beer.

The way the airlins throw luggage around, you would be wise not to pack beer in your checked luggage.

Put it in your carry-on. Once you have claimed your luggage, open your suitcase and then pack the beer.

Not being a beer drinker, the cans can be easily crushed - they look thin to me.

A case of beer checked in with luggage will play havoc with your allowance.

You can have 50 pounds per suitcase..and most only allow 2 suitcases.

Are you taking a crusieline shuttle to the pier? A taxi? if a taxi or car service they will stop for you to pick stuff up- we do this each cruise to pickup soda and water.

I wouldn't take a chance unless I bagged the beer in several layers of plastic bags. You might find all your clothes soaking wet when you got to your destination and besides that - what about the other pax on the plane? Your accident can ruin the luggage of others.

And that caveat about weight - it's serious. It doesn't take much to make a 26 inch suitcase go over 50 lbs.

Skip the ship's transfer - take a cab - and stop for your beverages at port.
