Proper footwear for river boat and Altun Ha ruins

I'd recommend tennis/running shoes. boat decks could be slippery for flops and sandals. Water shoes or the water/hiking shoes, or the "5 finger" shoes work just fine too, but surf/beach type water shoes might have too thin of a sole.

DH and I did this same excursion with Carnival the other week. He wore tennis shoes with socks. I wore Keen Whisper sandals. They have the enclosed toe and are skid resistant on wet surfaces. For the boat it did not matter, but even though the general area was not wet, there were a few areas that were a little slippery when climbing.

More important is to bring a hat with a chin strap for the boat. There's no cover and it can go fast and the sun is hot. Also, we were extra equipped in case of mosquitoes. Sometimes you get them, sometimes not.

We did the tour with NCL - comfy walking shoes and BUG spray! We loved it, and were thankful we remembered to bring the DEET. There were a few who were not into spraying *poison* on themselves....and they were covered with mosquitos when we were walking to the ruins...I cannot imagine how many bites they must've gotten!
