juh18 Posted October 22, 2013 #1 Share Posted October 22, 2013 We were in Copenhagen for a few days pre-cruise. We took a wonderful Jewish walking tour with Charlotte Thalmay. (jewish-copenhagen.dk) She was quite flexible and gave us good insight into life in Copenhagen as well as a Jewish history in the city. She was quite pleasant and made our stay more interesting. We also took a hop-on-hop-off boat ride. That worked out well to get us to different parts of the city. For us, Tivoli was a waste of time and money. It just wasn't our thing. Copenhagen is a lovely city and it's definitely worth spending a few days there. People are friendly and helpful.
nisky Posted November 19, 2013 #2 Share Posted November 19, 2013 Thanks for the helpful info. We're just starting research on Copenhagen and any more info on the hop-on hop-off boat ride (which company?) and sites you particularly liked would be appreciated. nisky
Giantfan13 Posted November 22, 2013 #3 Share Posted November 22, 2013 Copenhagen is truly a remarkable city. It is very easy to do on your own and see all the major sites. We also did a walking tour and at a very leisurely pace, we saw everything in about 5-6 hours, with stopping for the Canal Boat tour which is about an hour. If you write to the Copenhagen Tourist office, they will send you wonderful things. Mention you are on a cruise and would love to do a walking tour of the city. Also Rick Steve's has some great walking tours. Here are a few pixs of Copenhagen. Most are in a 2 mile radius of each other. If you ship docks at Langeline you are within minutes of Copenhagen's most visited attraction, the Little Mermaid statue http://i834.photobucket.com/albums/zz267/Giantfan13/baltics/europe212.jpg Walking along from there, you will come to the Nyhavn section. This is a most colorful area where you can (and should) do the canal boat tour. http://i834.photobucket.com/albums/zz267/Giantfan13/baltics/europe248_zps07b56845.jpg From the boat you will go thru the canals of Copenhagen and get a terrific different perspective of the city http://i834.photobucket.com/albums/zz267/Giantfan13/baltics/europe284_zpscc7bc696.jpg If you so desire you can visit the Royal Palace and if you time it right you can watch the changing of the guard ceremony http://i834.photobucket.com/albums/zz267/Giantfan13/baltics/europe233.jpg You can now walk to the main square in the city, where Tivoli Gardens is. This is also where the Town hall is http://i834.photobucket.com/albums/zz267/Giantfan13/baltics/europe330.jpg Many people also like to visit Rosenborg Castle, where you can tour and view the crown jewels. http://i834.photobucket.com/albums/zz267/Giantfan13/baltics/europe340.jpg You will have a marvelous time in this wonderful city Cheers Len
