Believe it or not, in Nassau we port at 1:00 p.m. and deport at midnight in February...seems a day pass won't be worth it? Apparently it gets dark approximately 5:30 p.m., what to do in port til midnight? Will be 2 girls, my daughter (18) and myself....

Is it safe at night?

What could be some options?

Scubagirl and others- I need some help with this one please!

This will be our 1st time there,

Thanks so much!!

Yes, its true. It gets dark early. My last time there in August, we were there overnight. Frankly, the closest place to the port at night is Senor Frogs and another pub. I just didn't feel comfortable going there at night. It was approx 830-9pm. My sister also told me that Senor Frogs had a different vibe during that time as well. She, along with a friend, were brave enough to go.

I would say see if they have a 1/2 day pass, take another tour or spend time at a free beach. I'm heading that way on wednesday and I'm going to take advantage of Atlantis' 1/2 day pass.

We have the same situation coming up. We've been to Nassau before, but this time we were planing to walk down to Junkanoo beach for a bit and walk back, stopping at the straw market if the mood strikes. Junkanoo is free and an easy walk. We too felt a day pass somewhere didn't make sense given the times.

Thank you for your ideas very much. Not sure how much a half day pass is at atlantis, will check, but by the time we get off the ship....trust me, I would love to go tho and I hope you have a very good time.

Junkanoo gets such a wide spectrum of reviews....some say glass all over the place and nasty to a beautiful, clean, very nice beach....what a difference of opinion.

At this point, thinking taking the #10 jitney to Cable beach or Junkanoo and the straw market.

Also...does the straw market stay open after dark or is it best to get out of there by dark?

Sorry I am not allowed to recommend places as per CC policy, but I can tell you that there is not alot going on in the evenings.

Hotels like Hilton and Atlantis usually have some entertainment, and Atlantis has a casino.

And there are tourist bars downtown like senor frogs, sharkeys and Via Caffe.

As for nightime safety, the area around the port along the wharf is generally safe, but I wouldn't walk around by myself. There are usually other cruisers. Atlantis Marina Village and the hotel property is generally safe, but like all other cities, you should still be aware of your surroundings. There are 1000's of strangers milling around. Tourists and locals.

As for the Straw market. It is not open after dark. It closes around 5:30 /6 as does most everything else downtown except the bars and restaurants.

Thanks again!!

Hi, we were just in Nassau and booked a private tour through Island Marketing. We did the research and selected the itinerary ourselves -- an outside look at government buildings, a walk down the Queen's Staircase (driver met us at the other end), and a stop at Ft. Fincastle. Then we crossed over the Sidney Poitier Bridge for about an hour in the casino at Atlantis, then back to Graycliff to tour the chocolatier and cigar factory. We wound up at Arawak Cay - the locals call it the 'fish fry' for great Bahamian food at Oh, Andros. It was fantastic! The bus was new and spacious. Our guide, Joe, was marvelous, and it was only $40 each. I highly recommend it! It's easy to book online and you only pay a 20% deposit by credit card with majority due in cash at the end of the tour. Enjoy your trip whatever you do - and I'd get back on the ship before dark.
