New Year's Day in San Juan

We will be in port on New Year's Day from 1 to 6 p.m. San Juan is a port we have not visited before. What can we expect on New Year's Day? I imagine it is a holiday, will most places be closed or will everything be open and busy?

Any suggestions about what we could/should do? We are generally 'find a nice beach and snorkel' people, but it looks like San Juan is a beautiful historic port. Your input would be much appreciated.
