Can I bring gifts for local children?

I was going to have my sons (7 years old) bring a few gifts for local children at our stops. They are excited to do this. Is it allowed or is it looked negatively upon those that do?

I would give the gifts to a school or orphanage, to benefit lots of children. Maybe soccer balls or jump ropes?

Chrysalis provides scholarships in the form of shoes, uniforms and school supplies to over 250 students on the island. Please consider bringing a backpack of school supplies to donate. Current needs include: Backpacks, geometry sets, rulers, individual pencil sharpeners, white erasers, glue sticks, round point scissors, and basic and scientific calculators.

Karen at Dive Choice in Cozumel has for years and years been collecting toys for children that she delivers directly to the needy children of Cozumel personally at Christmas time. The dive community which is huge on Cozumel has been bringing toys in their extra space in their bags for years to her.
