Advice on before/after Med cruise

I think going by train will also be a lot less stressful and less tiring. Driving in unfamiliar circumstances is exhausting. I think you are making a wise choice to spend more time in Venice. You might want to look into the Doges Palace Secret Itineraries Tour, very interesting and worth the tariff.

Do you have a reason to be in Munich other than that's where you got good airfare to? If not, I'd consider going directly from Munich airport to the train station and on to Salzburg. When you've got only a short amount of time it's best to minimize the number of places you stay/number of moves in and out of hotels.

No, no reason other than airfare. Thanks so much for the advice and the link :) Methinks a long, land based European holiday will be in order in the next couple of years!
